Have a look at this former bug:

"Blit issues in PyQt4 Backend - ID: 2921157"

Using repaint() in instead of update() can cause the following error:

QWidget::repaint: Recursive repaint detected

which will cause the application to crash. I changed it back to update() and everything works just fine.
