TeX Live 2010 on Ubuntu installs a pdftex.map file where one font has two encodings specified:

pbkdo8y URWBookmanL-DemiBold ".167 SlantFont TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont" <texnansi.enc <8r.enc <ubkd8a.pfb

This causes dviread.py to abort with an assertion error. Will need to figure out what the other TeX tools do, but likely we will have to parse the PostScript in some more detail to select the correct encoding.
