Is the equivalent of git status implemented?
Or should I rely on git status -z --porcelain for now?

    There is a status API within libgit2, but it's not being included: https://github.com/nodegit/nodegit/blob/master/build/codegen/v0.18.0.json#L14754-L14755

    This can be worked on once the descriptor-refactor branch has landed.
