@A5rocks take a look when you can. I imagine one of the benefits with the old approach (Slice[str, None, int]) was knowing where the error surfaced but we'd lose that info here.
Maybe we can come up with a similar but useful shorthand if that is important. [,,@] would be good enough for me, or just reporting the index location at 0, 1 or 2.
