ive used a few kasa smart plugs for a while now and haven't provisioned one to a wifi network in a few months and I am unable to get the correct format down
im joining the tp-link open network then entering kasa --host 192.168.0.1 wifi join my_network
i then enter in my password with the prompt to no avail.
I've tried every conceivable configuration, providing my password as an argument:
kasa --host 192.168.0.1 wifi join --password my_password my_network
entering the information as strings
kasa --host 192.168.0.1 wifi join ssid='my_network'
could someone please provide the correct format for joining wifi with a hypothetical a ssid and password
What type of encryption are you using in your wifi? Try kasa wifi scan to get information about the networks the device sees, it will also show the keytype (if necessary).
The default --keytype is set to 3 (WPA-2), so you may need to adjust that.
my keytype is 3
im still having no luck provisioning , so to be clear my SSID and password should not be entered as strings
this is also a wifi i had previously provisioned to
I don't understand what you mean by "should not be entered as strings" as both of those input variables need to be strings...
That being said, the best I can give is to look at the logs of your AP to see if there are any indications why it's failing. That command just instructs the device to connect to the given wifi, and if that fails (for whatever reason) it'll reopen the initial AP to allow reconfiguration.
The quotation marks are not send to the device, or at least they should not be. You can use --debug flag to see the exact payloads that are send to the device.

The correct command is:
and if you leave the password out, it should be prompted.
