Remove jsocol/* and stop auto-adding on search #145

Description

In an attempt to see if any of my repositories are on tip4commit, I accidentally added one. That is absolutely not OK.

Please remove jsocol/bleach and any other jsocol/* repositories on tip4commit (see #127 for a list of people with similar requests or concerns).

More importantly: please break "search" and "add" into distinct operations. Auto-creating projects when there are no search results is simply not OK for something like this. (Again, see #127 for myriad reasons why.)

I second this. Auto-adding by search is terrible idea. I did add myself accidentally. Please remove tmichel/* as well.

If you make all of your information and work public, how can you claim the power to tell anyone what they are and are not able to do with that information so long as they directly attribute all work to you? (which the site does by linking directly to your project page on github).

Auto-creating projects when there are no search results is simply not OK for something like this

You just created search traffic by searching for your site. There has to be a page to take people to when a project is not already added, and this cuts out one step if the user is on the site to donate to certain projects.

Please read #111, #127, #146, and #149, and probably others, for oh so many explanations of the problem here.

There are, among other things, tax implications to this that mean "[cutting] out one step" and then accepting money is not OK. A no-results page that said "We couldn't find the project. [Want to add it?]" would be fine, but this isn't even opt-out, it's no-opt-at-all.

I don't understand why there would be tax implications if you choose not to accept the tip. The tip logs are very clear when a user has not specified a tip address and when the tip is reallocated to the project pool after 30 days.

This service is very similar to bountysource, perhaps you should also be raising issues with them?

Perhaps I should. That is not really the issue here.

@BLKSwan , I don't understand, or particularly care, why you're so staunchly defending this project, since you've said you're not a committer.

  6. BLKSwan commented on Nov 1, 2014

I think it is relevant here, because clearly Tip4Commit is not the only service doing this. Bountysource is also a for-profit company whereas Tip4Commit is an open source service.

And yep, that's correct, I'm not a committer. I'm just someone that values the service. I find the concept of permission-less project funding to be exciting, and very much aligned with the open source ethos.

    +1 -- auto-adding is a horrible feature.

This was fixed for me by #163, thank you.
