These docs walk through how to migrate our JavaScript SDKs through different major versions.
Version 11 of the Sentry JavaScript SDK primarily focuses on better OpenTelemetry interoperability, more flexible instrumentation, and better out-of-the-box defaults. The biggest changes are:
Since some of these changes are not caught by TypeScript or other tooling, we recommend reading through this entire guide before upgrading. For an early overview see #22056 "What's coming in v11".
Version 11 of the SDK is compatible with Sentry self-hosted versions 26.4.2 or higher. Lower versions may continue to work, but are not supported. For the best experience we recommend updating your self-hosted Sentry to the latest version.
Version 11 of the Sentry SDK has new compatibility ranges for runtimes and frameworks.
Node.js: The minimum supported Node.js version is now 20.19.0. Node.js 18 is no longer supported.
Deno: The minimum supported Deno version is now 2.8.3.
Browsers: Support for Safari 14 was dropped. Sentry now requires Safari 15 or higher. For the rest of the browser support matrix, refer to the Sentry docs.
The minimum required TypeScript version is increased to version 5.0.4. We also no longer emit down-leveled types.
Older TypeScript versions may continue to be compatible, but no guarantees apply.
We raised the minimum supported versions of several frameworks and libraries:
A new AWS Lambda Layer for version 11 will be published as SentryNodeServerlessSDKv11. The ARN will be published in the Sentry docs once available.
The layer is compatible with the nodejs20.x, nodejs22.x and nodejs24.x runtimes. Functions still on nodejs18.x need to move to a newer runtime before upgrading.
Updates and fixes for version 10 will be published as SentryNodeServerlessSDKv10.
Affected SDKs: Server-side SDKs (@sentry/node and all dependents).
By default, v11 no longer sets up an OpenTelemetry tracer provider for most SDKs. SDKs now own the full span lifecycle, producing native Sentry spans.
A new optional OpenTelemetry integration lets you connect Sentry events such as Errors, Logs, Crons and Metrics to your OpenTelemetry traces, if you need to. See Connecting Sentry to your OpenTelemetry traces.
Only @sentry/nextjs and @sentry/sveltekit still set up an OpenTelemetry compatible light tracer provider to capture spans the underlying frameworks emit.
This means you can run your own OpenTelemetry setup cleanly alongside Sentry without having Sentry spans leak into your pipeline anymore. Your OpenTelemetry setup will no longer be required to use Sentry components for exporting, context management and trace propagation.
With this, we also heavily reduced our OpenTelemetry dependencies, with @opentelemetry/api being the only one remaining. These changes also mean @sentry/node-core no longer serves any purpose and was merged back into @sentry/node.
If you only use the Sentry SDK, day-to-day tracing remains unchanged.
There are three ways to run the Sentry and OpenTelemetry SDKs together, and which one you want depends on who should own spans. This is controlled by the new enableOpenTelemetrySetup option, which replaces v10's skipOpenTelemetrySetup with inverted meaning (skipOpenTelemetrySetup: true becomes enableOpenTelemetrySetup: false). It defaults to false for most server SDKs (including @sentry/node, @sentry/bun, the serverless SDKs and @sentry/cloudflare) and true for @sentry/nextjs and @sentry/sveltekit.
The default, and what you most likely want. Tracing works out of the box:

});Sentry registers a minimal OpenTelemetry-compatible tracer provider, context manager and propagator. Just enough OpenTelemetry to pick up spans created through @opentelemetry/api, which become native Sentry spans.
Spans go to Sentry. This is not a general OpenTelemetry pipeline: there is no exporter and no OTLP output. Sentry also refuses to register its provider if you already registered one of your own, logging a warning instead. If you want a real OpenTelemetry pipeline, use setup 3.
@sentry/cloudflare/request does not support this option. That entry point exists for runtimes that cannot enable the nodejs_compat compatibility flag (e.g. Shopify Oxygen) and sets up a reduced client without the OpenTelemetry tracer. Use the main @sentry/cloudflare entry point if you need setup 2.
Turn Sentry tracing off, run your own OpenTelemetry setup, and add the Sentry openTelemetryIntegration(). Leave enableOpenTelemetrySetup unset or set it to false:

On @sentry/nextjs and @sentry/sveltekit it defaults to true, so you have to set it to false explicitly. Otherwise Sentry registers its own tracer provider and you end up in setup 2 rather than this one.
Spans are completely managed by your OpenTelemetry setup and the two pipelines stay separate: Sentry sends no spans, and no Sentry span is exported to your OpenTelemetry pipeline. Sentry captures errors and logs, and the Sentry openTelemetryIntegration() attaches them to the active OpenTelemetry span so all your telemetry is connected in one trace. getOtlpTracesEndpoint() turns your DSN into the URL and auth headers for Sentry's OTLP endpoint, so you can point your own exporter at Sentry, at your own collector, or at both.
Sentry does not touch your pipeline: no exporter, no span processor, no tracer provider, and outgoing trace propagation is left to your propagator. See Connecting Sentry to your OpenTelemetry traces for the details, including what changed if you used the v10 integration.
This setup only works with Sentry tracing off, so leave tracesSampleRate unset. Sentry instruments many of the same libraries OpenTelemetry does (Express, Postgres, Redis, Prisma, Kafka and so on), so leaving tracing on gives you two spans for every operation, in two pipelines that never join up. With tracing off, Sentry's instrumentation stays installed and keeps isolating requests, but emits no spans.
Note that this changed since v10, where setting skipOpenTelemetrySetup: true also turned Sentry's HTTP and fetch spans off by default. Sentry now emits those whenever tracing is enabled, regardless of enableOpenTelemetrySetup, so an app that relied on that has to unset tracesSampleRate.
In v10, running your own OpenTelemetry setup meant registering Sentry's own components into it: SentryContextManager, SentrySampler and SentrySpanProcessor. Those were removed, so there is no longer a way to route spans from your own provider into Sentry as Sentry spans. Export them over OTLP instead, as shown in setup 3.
Sentry.openTelemetryIntegration() attaches everything Sentry sends that carries trace information (errors, logs, metrics and crons) to the OpenTelemetry span that is active when it happens. It takes no options, and is available from every server-side SDK, so there is nothing extra to install or import. See setup 3 above for a complete example.
It does not set up a span exporter, span processor, or tracer provider. You keep full ownership of your OpenTelemetry pipeline, and outgoing request propagation is left to your OpenTelemetry propagator. To send your spans to Sentry, point your own exporter at the URL and auth headers that Sentry.getOtlpTracesEndpoint() derives from your DSN.
An active Sentry span still takes precedence, so this only changes what happens when Sentry has no span of its own, which is the usual setup when OpenTelemetry owns tracing.
If you used the v10 integration from @sentry/node-core/light/otlp, three things changed: it moved to the main export of every server SDK, it no longer sets up an exporter for you and lost its options, and it was renamed to openTelemetryIntegration(). Configure your own exporter as shown in setup 3, pointing it at your collector's URL if you route through one.

Heads up — this is a behavior change, not just a renamed option. In v10, leaving sendDefaultPii unset behaved like sendDefaultPii: false (restrictive). In v11, leaving dataCollection unset collects the categories below by default. Review this before upgrading if you'd rather not collect HTTP request data, database queries, or GenAI inputs/outputs.
We've replaced sendDefaultPii with dataCollection, which controls each category of collected data individually. The default is now more permissive than in v10.

Sentry's built-in sensitive-data filtering still applies. Review your data-scrubbing config for categories that may contain sensitive values — especially request/response bodies.
The v11 default matches this, so just remove the option:

The requestDataIntegration's include options remain an integration-level override. An explicit false prevents that category from being attached, while an explicit true enables it even when the corresponding dataCollection category is disabled. For cookies, headers, and query parameters, any configured allow or deny filtering continues to apply: When include enables a category which dataCollection disabled, the default sensitive-value denylist is applied.
User IP address inference, which was previously gated on sendDefaultPii, is now controlled by dataCollection.userInfo. An explicit requestDataIntegration({ include: { ip: true } }) overrides dataCollection.userInfo: false for data collected by that integration.
trackClientIp no longer defaults to false. When you leave it unset, handleRequest now follows dataCollection.userInfo, which defaults to true, so Astro apps that set neither option start reporting user.ip_address. Pass trackClientIp: false to keep the v10 behaviour.
captureActionFormDataKeys is an integration-level override, so it no longer requires dataCollection.httpBodies to also include 'incomingRequest':

});If captureActionFormDataKeys is not set, all form fields are captured when dataCollection.httpBodies includes 'incomingRequest' (the v11 default). Values whose field name looks sensitive (password, token, …) are replaced with [Filtered], including explicitly allowlisted ones.
The captured fields are now reported as remix.action_form_data.<field> span attributes on every runtime. On Node, they were previously reported as formData.<field>; the Cloudflare and Hydrogen paths already used the new name. Update any dashboards, alerts, or saved searches that query formData.*.
Affected SDKs: @sentry/node and all dependents.
The new channel-based instrumentations (using orchestrion instead of import-in-the-middle) are now the default. They were available opt-in in v10. This unlocks instrumenting at run and build time, which enables instrumentation at deployment targets like Vercel and Netlify, as well as using instrumentations on non-Node runtimes like Cloudflare, Bun and Deno. For most users this requires no changes.
One integration to call out specifically here is the vercelAIIntegration. This integration no longer works on Vercel Edge (as that does not support diagnostics channel), and we also removed the capabilities to enhance native OTEL spans emitted by the ai package - you can only capture these as-is and may loose some advanced agent monitoring capabilities. On the other hand, the integration will now work much better out of the box in many environments than it used to before.

The Koa error handler is now registered automatically when your app starts, so you no longer need to call setupKoaErrorHandler. The function is deprecated and will be removed in a future major version; you should no longer call it.
Affected SDKs: @sentry/node and all dependents that re-export it (e.g. @sentry/aws-serverless, @sentry/google-cloud-serverless, @sentry/astro, @sentry/remix, @sentry/solidstart, @sentry/sveltekit, @sentry/bun, @sentry/elysia).
The Hapi error handler is now registered automatically when your server starts, so you no longer need to call setupHapiErrorHandler yourself. The function is deprecated and will be removed in a future major version; you should no longer call it.

Node re-runs --require preloads on the internal module loader thread it spawns for Module.register() — which the SDK triggers itself when it installs its instrumentation hooks. A --required instrument file therefore ran Sentry.init() a second time, on a thread that never executes any of your code. The SDK now skips initialization on that thread and warns when it detects that it was loaded through --require.
Use --import instead. It is not re-run on the loader thread, and it works for CommonJS apps too — the instrument file's extension (.cjs, or .js in a package without "type": "module") is what decides that it loads as CommonJS:

Spans are now sent to Sentry in small batches instead of being buffered until the root span completes. This means spans are no longer bound by the 1000-span per transaction limit and their individual payload-size limits have been increased.
The new model comes with some changes to Sentry hooks such as beforeSendSpan or options like ignoreSpans and requires manual migration. The beforeSendTransaction and ignoreTransactions options will no-op. Scope tags and extra are no longer applied to spans, since streamed spans only carry attributes. If you cannot migrate to span streaming yet, you can opt into the previous transaction-based static model.
Streamed spans only carry attributes, so scope tags and extra (set via Sentry.setTag(s), Sentry.setExtra(s) or the equivalent scope methods) are no longer applied to spans. This affects every span, including the segment span that replaced the transaction.
Tags and extra still apply to errors, so you don't have to remove them. Set attributes for everything that should also be searchable on spans (attributes additionally apply to logs and metrics):

});Your beforeSendSpan callback now receives a StreamedSpanJSON object and is invoked as each span finishes, rather than for all spans of a transaction right before that transaction is sent. As in v10, it is invoked for the root span as well as for child spans.

The status field, now only contains two statuses: 'ok' and 'error'. Streamed spans always have a status (while status was optional on transaction-based spans). Previously more fine-grained error statuses are now mapped to 'error'. Additional error information may be set via span attributes (e.g. sentry.status.message).

});A beforeSendSpan callback that does not match the configured traceLifecycle is never invoked — an unwrapped callback is ignored in 'static' mode, and a withStaticSpan-wrapped callback is ignored in 'stream' mode. Enable debug logging to surface a warning about the mismatch. Previously, an incompatible callback silently downgraded the SDK to the static lifecycle instead.
The withStreamedSpan() helper is now a no-op, since streamed payloads are the default. It is deprecated and will be removed in v12. You can remove the wrapper:

beforeSendTransaction no-ops because no transaction events are produced. For scrubbing and data modification, move the logic to beforeSendSpan and guard on is_segment to target what used to be the transaction For dropping a transaction or child spans, use ignoreSpans (see below). The beforeSendSpan callback cannot drop spans.

ignoreTransactions no-ops. Use ignoreSpans to match the segment span instead: when a segment span is ignored, all of its child spans are dropped with it, which is equivalent to dropping the whole transaction.

});ignoreSpans matches on the span name (formerly description). Because it applies to every span rather than just to root spans, consider narrowing the filter with the object form so that child spans sharing a name are not dropped as collateral:

});ignoreSpans itself is unchanged in shape, but it now takes effect when a span starts rather than when the transaction is sent. Matched spans are never recorded at all, which means a matched non-segment span's children are re-parented to its parent instead of being dropped.
The ignoreStatusCodes option is deprecated on httpIntegration and httpServerSpansIntegration (Node and the SDKs built on it) as well as on denoHttpIntegration and denoServeIntegration. It will be removed in v12, without a direct replacement.
The filter runs on the finished transaction event, which is no longer supported span streaming. Child spans are sent as they end, before the response status code is known, so a request's spans can no longer be dropped once the status turns out to be uninteresting. The option therefore only has an effect with traceLifecycle: 'static'.
To keep specific requests out of Sentry, decide before they are instrumented: Use tracesSampler, or ignore the request via ignoreIncomingRequests, which matches on the incoming request instead of on the response:

});In Node, Bun, Vercel Edge and Cloudflare you can also set the SENTRY_TRACE_LIFECYCLE=static environment variable instead. The static lifecycle only exists for backwards compatibility and is planned for removal in a future major version, so treat this as a temporary measure.
The spanToJSON helper previously returned a SpanJSON object. In v11, the return type was changed to StreamedSpanJSON, meaning the object shape is now the same as in beforeSendSpan.
If you're opting out of span streaming, you can replace your spanToJSON calls with spanToStaticSpanJSON, which still returns the static SpanJSON object format.
The spanToStreamedSpanJSON helper, which returned this format in v10, was removed in favor of spanToJSON. Since the two are now equivalent, replace any calls to it:

The enableLogs option was removed. Logging now follows an opt-in-by-usage model similar to metrics: logs are captured whenever you call Sentry.logger.* or add a logging integration (such as consoleLoggingIntegration() or the Pino integration). There is no longer an option to disable logging once you use a logging API or integration.

Browser sessions affected by an uncaught error are now recorded as unhandled rather than crashed. If you track crash-free session rates in Release Health or have alerts built on them, expect the crash-free rate to shift after upgrading.

The default lifecycle mode of browserSessionIntegration changed from 'route' to 'page'. In 'page' mode a session is created once when the page loads and is not renewed on navigation. To restore the previous behaviour (a new session on load and on every navigation):

webVitalsIntegration (auto-registered by browserTracingIntegration) now reports its own set of LCP, CLS and INP for every soft navigation the browser detects through the Soft Navigations API, attributed to the navigation span it belongs to.
This also changes how the initial page load is measured. Previously a page reported a single set of vitals that accumulated over the whole page lifetime. Now the page load's vitals are finalized at the first soft navigation, so expect the values reported for page loads to drop on apps that do client-side routing, most noticeably for CLS and INP. Aggregates such as p75s will shift after upgrading.
Reporting per soft navigation requires span streaming (traceLifecycle: 'stream', the default) and is ignored in browsers without support for the Soft Navigations API (Chromium 151+). Navigations the browser does not detect as soft navigations (programmatic navigations, navigations that never paint) report no vitals at all, so coverage is lower than for page loads.
To keep the previous behaviour of one set of vitals for the whole page lifetime:

With soft navigation reporting enabled (the default, see above), the SDK no longer subscribes to every intermediate CLS and LCP update. web-vitals reports once per navigation, with the final value.
This is required for per-navigation values to be correct: web-vitals skips any report with a zero delta, including the forced report at a navigation boundary, so subscribing to all changes means the page load never receives its final value.
The visible effect is in Session Replay, which records web-vital breadcrumbs from the same instrumentation. Replays now contain one LCP and one CLS entry per navigation instead of one per intermediate update. Where soft navigation reporting is disabled or unsupported, the previous behaviour is unchanged.

A page restored from the back/forward cache now reports its own LCP, CLS and INP, against the navigation span browserTracingIntegration starts for the restore and tagged browser.navigation.type: bfcache.
A restore is near-instant by construction, so these are a distinct population from page load vitals rather than more samples of the same thing. Read them through that attribute; pooling them with page loads will pull aggregates down. Set webVitals: { bfcacheNavigations: false } to leave restores unmeasured.

Events created from a DOMException no longer carry a DOMException.code tag. The code property is deprecated and has been replaced by DOMException.name, which is already available as the exception type. If you have searches or alert rules keyed on the tag, switch them to error.type.

attachStacktrace now defaults to true. Events captured with Sentry.captureMessage, and non-Error values passed to Sentry.captureException, now attach a synthetic stack trace pointing to the call site. Pass attachStacktrace: false in Sentry.init to restore the previous behavior.
Two consequences to be aware of when upgrading:

The deprecated httpIntegration / httpServerSpansIntegration hooks instrumentation.requestHook, instrumentation.responseHook, and instrumentation.applyCustomAttributesOnSpan no longer run for incoming request spans. Use onSpanCreated instead. For outgoing request spans, httpIntegration has outgoingRequestHook, outgoingResponseHook, and outgoingRequestApplyCustomAttributes.
In v10 these hooks ran for both directions, so which replacement you want depends on which spans your hook was mutating:

denoHttpIntegration now creates Sessions for incoming node:http requests, matching the other server SDKs. In v10 it disabled them unconditionally, so release health reported no session data for Deno servers. If you have a release configured, you will start seeing session aggregates for incoming requests. Pass sessions: false to restore the previous behavior:

The low-level HTTP instrumentation helpers exported from @sentry/core (getHttpClientSubscriptions and patchHttpModuleClient) took a propagateTrace option, while the public httpIntegration and nativeNodeFetchIntegration options were already named tracePropagation. The option is now called tracePropagation at every layer, matching tracePropagationTargets:

This is unrelated to propagateTraceparent (whether the W3C traceparent header is sent alongside sentry-trace) and tracePropagationTargets (which URLs receive trace headers). Both keep their names.
Affected SDKs: @sentry/deno.
denoHttpIntegration and denoServeIntegration now honor ignoreStatusCodes, using the same default list as httpIntegration in the other server SDKs: incoming request transactions whose response status falls in [[401, 404], [301, 303], [305, 399]] are dropped. Previously the option was declared but never read, so these transactions were always kept.
Each integration owns the option for the requests it instruments — denoHttpIntegration for node:http, denoServeIntegration for Deno.serve — so setting it on one does not affect the other. Pass your own list to change which codes are dropped, or an empty array to keep everything:

The default 'stream' lifecycle does not produce transaction events, and typical Deno apps are unaffected. Node's httpIntegration has the same limitation. For that reason, ignoreStatusCodes is deprecated and will be removed in v12.
Transactions that are kept now also carry the HTTP status in the top-level response context, as in the other server SDKs.
denoHttpIntegration additionally accepts the outgoing request hooks outgoingRequestHook, outgoingResponseHook and outgoingRequestApplyCustomAttributes, matching httpIntegration.

String and regular-expression matching for tracePropagationTargets is now case-insensitive. Previously a target had to match the casing of the outgoing request URL exactly. In browsers this was especially surprising, because the URL is normalized with new URL() before matching, which lower-cases the origin: a target written with the same casing as the request, such as 'myApi.com' or /^myApi\.com/, could therefore never match a request to https://myApi.com.

As part of this, the g and y flags are ignored on tracePropagationTargets regular expressions. These flags made matching stateful via lastIndex, so a target like /myApi\.com/g previously matched only every other request.

Sentry.sendFeedback() now rejects with an Error in all cases. Previously it rejected with a plain string when the request timed out, was rejected with a 403, or otherwise failed to send, while the synchronous validation paths (empty message, no client configured) already threw an Error. The message text itself is unchanged, and is still customizable through the errorMessages hint, so read it off error.message:

SanitizedRequestData — the shape used for http breadcrumb data and http.client span data — now uses http.request.method instead of http.method as a key for the request method.
On server-side HTTP spans, the content-length header is now always reported as http.request.body.size/http.response.body.size instead of switching to http.request_body_size_uncompressed when the no encoding was present.
The http.request.header.<key>/http.response.header.<key> attributes now write the header name lowercased as previously but no longer replaces dashes (-) with underscores (_). For example, the SDK now sets http.request.header.user-agent rather than http.request.header.user_agent. The same applies to the cookie names in http.request.header.cookie.<name> and http.request.header.set-cookie.<name>.
Network-related span attributes now use the current Sentry semantic conventions, aligned across SDKs. If you query, transform, or alert on the legacy net.* fields, update those references:

On database and messaging client spans, net.peer.name and net.peer.port were replaced by server.address and server.port.
Transport values also change from ip_tcp and ip_udp to tcp and udp. HTTP instrumentation reports the application protocol as network.protocol.name: "http" and reports its version separately in network.protocol.version.
Attribute availability remains runtime-dependent. For example, browser and Worker APIs do not expose socket peer details, so those spans only include the network information their runtime provides. Client IP address collection remains controlled by dataCollection.userInfo where the runtime exposes it.
Span attributes now use the shared @sentry/conventions package under the hood. The deprecated semanticAttributes re-export was removed. Import span attribute constants from @sentry/core directly. SEMANTIC_ATTRIBUTE_SENTRY_SOURCE (sentry.source) was removed. Use SENTRY_SEGMENT_NAME_SOURCE (sentry.segment.name.source) instead. sentry.segment.name.source is only set on the root span. Setting it on a child span is a no-op: setAttribute ignores it, and a value passed in a child span's initial attributes is dropped when the span is linked to its parent.

Span ops are now aligned to a smaller, framework-neutral, convention-backed set. The detail that used to live in the op (framework, library, method name, trigger, or lifecycle phase) is preserved in span attributes such as code.function.name, sentry.origin, db.system.name, db.operation.name, faas.trigger, and framework-specific attributes.
These changes are not caught by TypeScript. If you filter, group, or alert on span ops — in dashboards, dynamic sampling rules, ignoreSpans, or beforeSendSpan — update them to the new ops below.

The LangGraph instrumentation no longer emits gen_ai.create_agent spans when a graph is compiled. gen_ai.invoke_agent and gen_ai.execute_tool spans are unaffected. If you reference create_agent spans in dashboards or alerts, update them accordingly.
Affected SDKs: All server-side SDKs that support Express.
expressIntegration() now captures errors thrown from your route handlers automatically, so calling setupExpressErrorHandler(app) is no longer necessary — the call can be removed. It is deprecated and will be removed in the next major version. To customize which errors are captured, pass shouldHandleError to expressIntegration() (by default, 5xx errors and errors without a resolvable status are captured, while 3xx/4xx errors are not).
If you prefer to capture errors yourself, set expressIntegration({ shouldHandleError: false }) to opt out of automatic capture entirely, and call Sentry.captureException from your own error-handling middleware.
The expressErrorHandler and patchExpressModule exports are deprecated for the same reason and will be removed in the next major version. The export of expressErrorHandler and setupExpressErrorHandler is moved from @sentry/core to @sentry/server-utils.
The setupExpressErrorHandler and expressErrorHandler no longer accept a shouldHandleError option, and the ExpressHandlerOptions type was removed. Set the callback on expressIntegration() instead:

In strict mode, onUnhandledRejectionIntegration printed the warning This error originated either by throwing inside of an async function without a catch block, or by rejecting a promise which was not handled with .catch(). The promise rejected with the reason: in front of every unhandled rejection. It is now printed only when the rejection reason has no stack trace, which matches Node.js. A rejection with an Error reason prints the error alone.
The process still exits with code 1 and the reason is still written to stderr in both cases. If you match on that warning text in log processing or in tests, update it.

With span streaming enabled (the default), span names are now low cardinality, following the Sentry span name conventions.
If you opt out of span streaming, span names remain unchanged.

function.gcp spans are named after the function, which the SDK reads from the FUNCTION_TARGET or K_SERVICE environment variable. This covers @sentry/google-cloud-serverless and the firebase functions integration in @sentry/node.
Whatever the name no longer carries stays on the span as an attribute:
function.aws spans in @sentry/aws-serverless were already named after the Lambda function, so their names are unchanged. The only new behaviour is the fallback: if neither the invocation context nor the AWS_LAMBDA_FUNCTION_NAME environment variable yields a function name, the span is named Serverless function execution instead of carrying an empty name. These spans continue to carry the function name on faas.name, the request URL on url.full, and the invocation details on aws.lambda.* and aws.cloudwatch.logs.*. Their sentry.segment.name.source is now component rather than custom, matching the other FaaS spans: the name comes from the function, not from the user. This applies in both trace lifecycles.
The spans around wrapLoadWithSentry, wrapServerLoadWithSentry and wrapServerRouteWithSentry are named after the function they wrap (load, or the HTTP method a +server.js route handler is exported as) rather than after the route it ran for. The route stays on http.route (url.template for the client-side universal load span) and the request path on url.path, so ignoreSpans and tracesSampler rules that matched these names have to match those attributes instead.
Their span description is unchanged: each span carries a sentry.description attribute holding the name it had before. The same applies to the spans SvelteKit's own tracing emits (sveltekit.load, sveltekit.resolve, sveltekit.form_action, ...), which the SDK marks as function spans.
When span streaming is enabled (i.e. by default) ignoreSpans is evaluated when a span starts, at which point a span might not yet have its final name:

A web framework like Express matches the route after that point, so an http.server span is named GET when your rule is evaluated and not GET /health. Name-based rules stop matching silently: no error, no warning, just unexpected quota usage. No route attribute is set at that point either, so match on url.path:

Outgoing requests never resolve to a route, so every http.client name changes: the path, query and fragment are dropped and only the domain is kept. The full URL remains available on url.full, and outgoing request spans now also carry a url.domain attribute. A request with no domain to fall back on, such as a data URL or a relative URL that the SDK cannot resolve against a page origin, is named after the HTTP method alone.
Only the Express, Koa and Hapi integrations resolve a route template for router spans.
The Express, Fastify, Hapi and Elysia integrations resolve a route template for handler spans.
NestJS has no route template when the span starts, so its request handler spans are named Request handler.
The handler function name stays on an attribute: nestjs.callback for NestJS, and code.function.name for Elysia, which now sets it on its handler spans. Elysia request handler spans also carry http.route now.
The graphql operation name and the resolver field path are no longer part of a span name. They remain available on the graphql.operation.name and graphql.field.path attributes. Every graphql span now carries a graphql.processing.type attribute (parse, validate, execute or resolve).
useOperationNameForRootSpan no longer renames the enclosing root span (GET /graphql stays GET /graphql, instead of becoming GET /graphql (query GetUser)). The operations are still recorded on that span's sentry.graphql.operation attribute, as long as the option stays enabled (the default). Disabling it skips both, as before.
Because the URL path is gone from http.client names, graphqlClientIntegration no longer appends the operation to the outgoing request span name (POST https://api.example.com/graphql (query GetUser) becomes POST api.example.com). Outgoing GraphQL request spans now carry the operation on the graphql.operation.name and graphql.operation.type attributes instead, and it also stays on the request breadcrumb's graphql.operation data.
LangChain agent spans now lead with the operation, like LangGraph and Vercel AI ones: chain format_prompt becomes invoke_agent format_prompt, and a chain the SDK cannot name becomes invoke_agent rather than chain unknown_chain. The chain name remains available on gen_ai.pipeline.name. LangGraph agent names and Vercel AI functionIds are unchanged.
URIs are no longer part of an mcp.server span name. The URI remains available on the mcp.resource.uri attribute.
Messaging span names now read <operation type> <destination> in every integration. The amqplib, kafkajs and NestJS BullMQ span names change: my-queue process became process my-queue, amqplib's publish became send, and the kafkajs batch span's poll became receive. The operation name is recorded on the messaging.operation.name attribute.
An amqplib span's destination is the exchange it uses, or the routing key when it uses the default exchange. RabbitMQ binds every queue to the default exchange under a key equal to the queue's own name, so sendToQueue spans are named after their queue (send my-queue) instead of dropping the destination. messaging.destination.name reports the same value, and the routing key remains on messaging.rabbitmq.destination.routing_key in full.
AWS SQS SendMessage, SendMessageBatch and ReceiveMessage, and SNS Publish, are messaging spans (e.g. queue.publish) rather than rpc ones now. Every other command on those clients, such as DeleteMessage, stays rpc. Their names follow the messaging conventions too, so the operation comes first (my-queue receive becomes receive my-queue, my-topic send becomes send my-topic). A streamed SNS Publish to a platform endpoint is named send, because the endpoint ARN it used to carry ends in a per-device id (endpoint/GCM/myapp/<uuid> send). The full ARN remains on messaging.destination.name.
Because a name built from an operation type has to be able to say which operation it means, the NestJS BullMQ, AWS SNS and AWS SQS SendMessage spans now carry the messaging.operation.type attribute they name themselves after. The other messaging integrations already set it.
Cache keys are no longer part of a cache span name. They remain available on the cache.key attribute, and every cache span now also carries a cache.operation attribute (get, put, remove), which is the value the name is built from. This affects the redis/ioredis cache spans (with cachePrefixes set on the redis integration), the Nuxt and Nitro storage spans, and the dataloader spans.
A Redis command whose key matches cachePrefixes now starts as a cache.* span instead of being converted from a db.query span at response time. ignoreSpans is evaluated at span start, so filters can match these spans by their cache op and name. A failed cache command reports as a cache span too, where it previously stayed a db.query span. For the Redis cache integration, the maxCacheKeyLength option no longer has an effect if span streaming is enabled, as it only affected the span name based on the cache key.
A dataloader span no longer carries the loader's name either (dataloader.load usersLoader becomes cache.get). The loader name is reported on the db.collection.name attribute instead.
The pg, postgres.js, mysql, mysql2, knex, tedious, Prisma, Nitro db0 and Cloudflare D1 instrumentations all name their query spans the same way. SQL query spans are named after the summary of the statement rather than the statement itself. A statement that touches no table (SELECT NOW()) summarizes to the bare operation (SELECT). The full, sanitized statement remains available on db.query.text, and the summary on the new db.query.summary attribute.
Supabase query spans drop the builder call from the name (select(...) from(users) becomes select users); the query modifiers stay on the db.query attribute. Supabase auth spans are named after the method they call (auth signInWithPassword becomes auth.signInWithPassword, auth (admin) createUser becomes auth.admin.createUser). An auth call has neither a table nor a namespace to build a name from.
A mongoose span's name is built from db.collection.name, so it holds the collection (blogposts) rather than previously the model (BlogPost). The related db.system.name change from mongoose to mongodb applies here too.
Redis has no statement to summarize so redis and ioredis db.query spans are named after the operation and the connection instead of the command that was sent. The command and its arguments remain available on db.query.text.
Connect and pool spans keep their names: pg.connect, pg-pool.connect, mysql2.connect, redis-connect and generic-pool.acquire remain unchanged.

AI integrations now only trace model invocations, tool calls, and agent invocations. Spans are no longer emitted for operations that don't run model inference, such as:

fastifyIntegration is now a single, channel-based plugin that instruments Fastify v3.21 through v5, including error capture. Calling setupFastifyErrorHandler(app) is no longer required — errors are captured automatically once the integration is added. setupFastifyErrorHandler is therefore deprecated and will be removed in the next major.
Because the integration owns error capture, setupFastifyErrorHandler no longer accepts a shouldHandleError option. Set it on fastifyIntegration instead — it applies to every supported Fastify version:

Note that v10.30.0 deprecated a top-level reactComponentAnnotation in favour of webpack.reactComponentAnnotation, and v11 removed it. This reinstates the top-level option with broader meaning: it now drives Turbopack builds as well, which the old one never did. If you moved to webpack.reactComponentAnnotation for v10, moving back to the top level is the forward path.
On Turbopack, component annotation requires Next.js 16+. The SDK now warns at build time if annotation is enabled on an older Next.js version, where it previously did nothing silently.
Default environment on Vercel no longer has a vercel- prefix: On Vercel, the SDK now defaults environment to the value of VERCEL_TARGET_ENV (production, preview, or a custom environment name) instead of vercel-production / vercel-preview. Update alert rules, dashboards and saved searches that reference the old names, or keep them by setting environment explicitly.
Vercel AI no longer supported on Edge runtime: We now rely on diagnostics channels for our Vercel AI instrumentation, which does not work on the Edge runtime. Because of this, monitoring of the ai package is no longer supported on Edge. Note that Edge is deprecated.

Calls to rate limiter bindings (env.MY_RATE_LIMITER.limit()) no longer create a span. The removed span had the op rpc, the origin auto.faas.cloudflare.rate_limit, and the attribute rpc.service: cloudflare.rate_limit. Remove any dashboard, alert, or ignoreSpans entry that references it.
The SDK now bundles sentry.server.config.ts into the Nitro server build, where it initializes itself when the server starts. Instrumentation happens at build time, so preloading the config file is no longer necessary.
Remove the --import flag from your production start command:

@sentry/ember is now a v2 (Embroider) addon, so it builds cleanly under Embroider and Vite in addition to classic builds. Because v2 addons cannot auto-configure the host app, Sentry is no longer wired up from config/environment.js and no longer registers its own initializer. You now call Sentry.init() yourself and opt into performance instrumentation explicitly. A full walkthrough lives in packages/ember/UPGRADE.md.

The deprecated sourceMapsUploadOptions and other deprecated Vite/build plugin options were removed from @sentry/astro, @sentry/nuxt and @sentry/sveltekit. Use the top-level equivalents (e.g. sourcemaps, release, authToken, org, project, telemetry) instead.
Deploys that the bundler plugins create automatically on Vercel now use the value of VERCEL_TARGET_ENV (production, preview, or a custom environment name) as their environment instead of vercel-production / vercel-preview. This matches the new default runtime environment of @sentry/nextjs, and the production default of all other SDKs. If your events use a different environment, set release.deploy.env to the same value, or set release.deploy to false to opt out.
The unstable_sentry*PluginOptions escape hatch was removed from every SDK. It existed because the Sentry bundler plugins shipped on a separate release cadence from the SDK; they now live in the SDK monorepo and move in lockstep, so every supported plugin option is reachable as a first-class build option.

Removed support for the public/instrument.server.[ext] file. Move the file to the root of your project, next to nuxt.config.ts, and rename it to sentry.server.config.[ext]. Its contents do not change.

The generated client snippet now always includes the Replay integration with default sample rates — to customize or remove it (previously done by setting both replay sample rates to 0), create a sentry.client.config.ts.

Metrics are no longer included in the base CDN bundle. Metrics are now shipped only in the dedicated *.logs.metrics CDN bundles. If you use metrics via the CDN, switch to a *.logs.metrics bundle. On the other bundles, Sentry.metrics.* is a no-op shim that warns in debug builds.

The InboundFilters integration was renamed to EventFilters, and inboundFiltersIntegration to eventFiltersIntegration. The old inboundFiltersIntegration export (deprecated in v10) was removed.

The childProcessIntegration was split into a childProcessIntegration (for child_process) and a separate workerThreadsIntegration (for worker_threads).
Both integrations are enabled by default, so no change is needed to keep the previous behavior.
The deprecated captureWorkerErrors option was removed. Worker thread errors are always captured as events now. To opt out, remove workerThreadsIntegration instead:

});Note that captureWorkerErrors: false used to downgrade worker thread errors to a worker_thread breadcrumb. That breadcrumb is gone, so removing the integration drops worker thread errors entirely.
The includeChildProcessArgs option stays on childProcessIntegration. Disabling childProcessIntegration no longer disables worker thread error capture, since that now lives in workerThreadsIntegration.
The mechanism type of worker thread errors changed from auto.child_process.worker_thread to auto.node.worker_threads. Adjust any alerts or filters that match on it.
Affected SDKs: @sentry/deno.
Several default integrations were renamed to match the names used by the other SDKs. The old deno*Integration exports are kept as deprecated aliases. If you relied on the old names (for example, to disable an integration), update them:

The incoming-span hooks on denoHttpIntegration were renamed to match httpIntegration in the other server SDKs. Their arguments are typed as HttpIncomingMessage / HttpServerResponse now, instead of unknown.

The old name was misleading: the integration sends nothing over OTLP. It sets up no exporter, no span processor and no tracer provider, and only connects what Sentry sends to your OpenTelemetry traces.

Serverless bundlers that trace by reachability (e.g. @vercel/nft) then copied all of it into the function. Moving the plugin behind its own subpath keeps it off the runtime entry so it is never reachable from server code.

);Version support timelines are stressful for everybody using the SDK, so we won't be defining one. Instead, we will be applying bug fixes and features to older versions as long as there is demand.
Additionally, we hold ourselves accountable to any security issues, meaning that if any vulnerabilities are found, we will in almost all cases backport them.
Note, that it is decided on a case-per-case basis, what gets backported or not. If you need a fix or feature in a previous version of the SDK, please reach out via a GitHub Issue.
