Seismology Research at BGS

Our research is focussed on three areas:

  • Improve understanding of the driving forces for earthquakes in the British Isles and the geological factors controlling their distribution
  • Develop comprehensive models for the seismic properties of the crust and upper mantle underlying the British Isles
  • Develop and apply new methods to improving understanding of seismic hazard.
