Alice Sjberg shared thisIts always fun when I get to use my language skills at work. I first came across Andr Helgesen on TikTok, as he shared his experience of attending a weight loss camp in China whilst in the middle of his backpacking travels. I got the chance to interview him about his expense there and his overall weight loss, having lost over 8 stone, giving me the opportunity to use my Swedish skills for the first time in my career. He also gave me the permission to add one of his TikTok videos on my story, but as it was in Swedish, I decided to add on subtitles in English. While Im happy (and relieved) to say that Im still happily working within the Social News team at Reach plc as a reporter, not all of my colleagues were as lucky to get to stay in their roles. This has truly been one of the best teams Ive worked with, and Im happy to get to stay. But this week we had several people leave across the company, and theyll be greatly missed. So if anyone is hiring, keep an eye out for people from Reach, as theyre some of the best colleagues ever, and youll be lucky to have them on your teams.

Alice Sjberg posted thisAfter spending a couple of weeks to process the news (while also moving house), Im sad to say that Im one of the 321 employees at Reach plc at risk of being made redundant at the end of October. While Ive absolutely loved being back working at Reach, specifically within the incredible Social News Team in the Content Hub, Im now on the lookout for a new role. I have experiences with journalism, editing, and social media management, but would also love to explore roles outside of this field, particularly within PR or content writing. Alice Sjberg shared this4 September is World Sexual Health day. For this, I had the pleasure of speaking with Victoria Roscow about her experience of finding out she was HIV positive when she was nine weeks pregnant with her son. Her only symptoms was having suffered flu-like symptoms almost three years before this. I came across Victoria on TikTok, where she's made a following by speaking about her live with HIV and talking about all the misconceptions that comes with the diagnosis - including still being able to give birth to and breastfeed her baby without him getting HIV positive. During our talk, she also blew my mind with some scary statistics. Did you know that straight women are now the group that has had the biggest increase in new cases in the UK in 2023, with heterosexual sex being the biggest cause of people acquiring the virus? Despite this, women are not seen at high risk groups and rarely get tested for HIV. For Stroke Awareness Month, I opened up about my dad having a stroke when he was 40 years old, and the different lifestyle changes Ive done in order to help my body prevent it from happening to me as Ive since been considered high risk of having one. Its honestly one of the best teams Ive ever worked with and Im so happy to get to be a part of it.Alice Sjberg shared thisLast night we were proud to host our first Celebrating Brilliant Journalism Awards, shining a light on the work of our fantastic journalists and teams over the past year. Nearly 200 colleagues attended a ceremony in Manchester, hosted by Carol Vorderman, who has also hosted the Mirrors Pride of Britain awards for 25 years. She announced winners across 27 categories, including Brand of the Year which went to the Express. Other wins included the Content Hub taking home the prize for Team of the Year, the Daily Records football podcast HotLine Live for the audio & video award, and Journalist of the Year, awarded jointly to Zak Garner-Purkis from the Express and the Birmingham Mails Jane Haynes. Ive been a little blindsided by this news but I dont want to waste any time in looking for new opportunities. I have over eight years of editorial experience as an esports and gaming journalist, including three years in senior editing roles managing teams across various verticals and time zones, working on business unit strategy, developing various streams of traffic and audience acquisition, and working closely with key stakeholders and contributors. While I love writing, editing, and building engaged audiences, Im also extremely interested in speaking with PR/Comms agencies about opportunities in the field. Id like to thank Dexerto for all the opportunities to grow and develop over the years, and will be sad if this does eventually end in redundancy. With that said, Im as motivated as ever and excited to continue learning and developing my skill set, wherever that may be. Any leads would be incredible!

I started posting content frequently again last January and gained over 200,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok last year from discussing rebuilding my wardrobe after gaining weight, plus-size fashion mainly for occasions such as red carpet premieres and weddings, as well as my film and TV content and BTS of my career as an author and film and TV journalist. A story I wrote for the i Paper back in March contextualises this a lot, but Ive taken a short break from freelancing while trying to re-calibrate - adjust to singledom, secure a new home & work out where on earth I want to take my chaotic life next. To cut a long story short, from Friday onwards, Im going to be starting a gorgeous new solo chapter in the Cotswolds - a part of the UK which owns my heart completely. Im going to continue to earn my keep as a freelance journalist/content writer/columnist, while finally being able to afford a flat-for-one (SO ready to say goodbye to HMOs), and making my silly little dating content on TikTok (1m views and counting, yay!) As I said on there - I have no man, no plan and Im ready to romanticise the hell out of my life. Its a very 2000s romcom vibe and, yes, Im optioning the film rights in advance
