Inside Londons most magical bar where boozy potions are served with a twist

OPINION: With the return of HBOs new Harry Potter series, we wanted some magical fun of our own, so we visited Hexmoor in Hackney for cocktails, chaos and wizarding mischief

With all the Harry Potter hype lately thanks to HBOs new series, we wanted to conjure some magical fun of our own so we checked out Londons most magical bar, Hexmoor. Hidden away in Hackney, this wizarding prison experience is part immersive theatre, part spellbinding cocktail adventure and entirely enchanting.

From the moment we stepped through the shadowy doors, it felt like we had been transported straight into a spell-binding world where magic is forbidden but mischief is mandatory.

We were handed inmate outfits to wear which immediately made us feel like fully fledged prisoners in a magical penitentiary. Sipping our drinks in our own tiny cells added to the thrill. It was part roleplay, part cocktail indulgence and completely spellbinding.

No wands required, just follow the story as it unfolds around you. Guards lurk in the corners, whispers carry hidden warnings and every flicker hints at secrets waiting to be unlocked. It is like living inside a spellbook where every moment is charged with magical tension and mystery.

The potions are where the true magic happens. Three handcrafted cocktails or mocktails are smuggled into the prison, each with our own individual twist.

From smoky mysterious brews to glittering brightly coloured concoctions, every sip felt like casting a charm, one that could either aid your escape or deepen your imprisonment. By the second cocktail, we were fully enchanted laughing at every twist, turn and mischievous trap set by the live actors.

Speaking of actors, the immersive storytelling is top notch. You do not have to act a single spell, yet the story wraps around you like an invisible cloak. Secrets to uncover, alliances to forge and daring escape attempts make it a fully interactive adventure. Perfect for a date night, a friends night out or anyone looking for an unforgettable magical evening.

From the atmospheric set design to the enchanting effects, Hexmoor is like stepping into a wizarding world of your own making. By the end of the night, slightly tipsy on potions and fully spellbound, we left with stories worthy of a Marauders Map.
