The internet is a goldmine for life hacks, and one woman has just gone viral on TikTok for her rice revelation. Known as 'Broke until payday,' the user's video is all about how she discovered that boil in the bag rice isn't different from normal rice.

"Why am I stupid? Because I thought boil in bag rice was like some special kind of rice," she said. The TikToker recounted how she sent her mum out to Asda in a rice emergency, reports the Mirror.

She said: "So the other day I told my mum to run to Asda because I had run out of rice. And she was like 'ah all they have is boil in the bag rice.' So I was thinking 'ah I don't like boil in the bag rice'. But just pick it up because we need rice."

But her annoyance at not having her usual basmati quickly turned to astonishment when she actually checked out the boil in the bag rice packaging. "So I'm looking at the packages now and I'm like this is just normal basmati rice that I buy anyway but not in a bag. Surely you must be able to cut open and just boil it without it being in the bag," she said.

"I honestly honestly thought in all my 41 years of life that boil in the bag rice was some special kind of rice for people that can't cook rice, so they made special rice and put it in a bag. So I was today years old when I learned that so I just cut all the rice out of the packages because who boils rice in a bag anyways? If you do, no judgement. But look how it came out, it just came out like normal regular rice."

She then showed off her pot of perfectly cooked rice, which she had fluffed up and added butter to before serving it with her meal. "So all that to say, if you run out of rice and all they have in the shop is boil in the bag rice, you can buy that," she said.

The woman's video sparked a mixed reaction online, with some viewers left puzzled as to why she chose to cut open the bag. One viewer commented, "I don't understand why you cut it open and emptied it, it cooks exactly the same," to which she replied, "Because I don't like boil in a bag rice."

"Boil in the bag is just for people who can't cook as when it's completely expanded you know it's done and it's easier to clean the pan," a second person said.

While another person commented: "It's portioned that's why it's in a bag and also makes it easier."

"I had this conversation in reverse with my ex...he only bought boil in the bag rice, and when I explained to him it was exactly the same as the packer I bought, he was so confused," another user shared.
