Fans have been horrified by the latest box-office hit, Backrooms. However, despite the truly terrifying nature of the film, viewers have been left wowed at how good the movie really is.
Having been released in the UK on Friday (May 29), the movie has already frightened thousands of cinemagoers, curious as to what lies inside the Backrooms themselves. Critics have already lauded the film as one of the most chilling flicks of the year.
Based on the so-called 'creepypasta' of the Backrooms, the story centres around a mysterious hidden world filled with infinite empty, dimly-lit rooms. Inside these rooms are various "entities" and creatures that end up tricking and deceiving the characters, pulling them deeper in.
The entire film, directed by Youtuber Kane Parsons, is shot with a first person-camera, making the movie even more terrifying as it pulls in the viewer, making them think they are being chased by the demonic creatures. This is Kane's debut film, at the age of just 21.
While we are not giving away any spoilers, the story centres around furniture shop owner Clark, who discovers the Backrooms through a strange doorway in his shop. Intrigued at the huge world at his fingertips, he eventually discovers the sinister side of the Backrooms, and tries to rope in his friends to help explore the vast undiscovered world with terrifying consequences.
After the movie made its debut on Friday, fans were quick to take to social media to give their thoughts on the film. One fan penned after seeing the movie: "Went to watch The Backrooms today, didnt understand a single thing, but its the first movie that genuinely creeped me out.
"Usually I fall asleep during horror movies," they added. "Best scary movie Ive ever seen."
A second penned: "Backrooms is one weird f****d up movie. Starts slow and continues to build and build until an absolute insane third act. Loved the cinematography and acting plus the musical score was chefs kiss. Also feels like Twin Peaks half the time which trust me is a compliment."
While a third added: "As someone who doesnt really like found footage [movies], the film is one of the most striking, eerie scenes from horror. Just bone chilling."

A fourth also said: "Backrooms was great, honestly. Could have done a lot more with the idea, but they nailed the concept and what makes it scary. Felt good to watch a horror film that actually felt fresh, at last."
However, not everyone was won over, as many admitted that they were not entirely scared by the level of horror in the movie. While many praised Kane for his directing skills, one user fumed: "I want my money back."
