Blur frontman Damon Albarn has said former band rivals Oasis have made Britpop feel like its the biggest thing on Earth. The singer has ended his classic war with the group, which was at its peak during the nineties as they regularly exchanged insults.
Damon said Liam and Noels band had won the battle, the war, the campaign, everything following their sell-out Oasis Live 25 tour this year. He also heaped praise on the Gallagher brothers and said he had no idea how they keep doing it.
Damon, 57, said: Oasis have done a very good job of making Britpop feel like its the biggest thing on Earth. I dont know how they do it myself, how they keep doing it.
They just hold on to that thing, but they do it very well.
During their heyday the bands constantly battled to be the top of the charts - which culminated with the so-called Battle of Britpop. It saw both groups releasing singles in the same week in 1995, with Blurs Country House ultimately taking the number one slot ahead of Oasis Roll With It.
But Damons latest praise for Oasis comes after he conceded defeat to his former foes, following the huge demand for tickets for their reunion tour.
He said: I think we can officially say that Oasis won the battle, the war, the campaign, everything. They are the winners.
They take first place. In the face of such overwhelming evidence, I am happy to accept and concede defeat. Its their summer and God bless them. I hope everyone has a wonderful time but Im going to be in a very, very different place.
He's not the first musician to hail the band recently. Miles Kane argued the Gallagher duo had relit the rock 'n' roll fire.
The singer-songwriter, who has worked with Liam and Noel over the years, said he can already see the reunion influencing a new wave of guitar acts. He told the Daily Star: I went to one of the Wembley shows and I had the night of my life. It was fantastic and Im happy for them.
When I first came through to London, they sort of took me under their wing and wed hang out and stuff. Ive got a lot of love for them for them lads, they just good people.
