The cast and crew of the new Harry Potter series have been put through a "brutal" time on set.
The first series of the JK Rowling reboot, due to air on HBO later this year, features an all new cast of kids including Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley) and Arabella Stanton (Arabella Stanton).
However, it's not been all magic spells and broomsticks rides as those involved say the filming has been incredibly difficult as the young actors are only able to be on set for about an hour and a half" at a time.
Adriano Goldman, a cinematographer on the project described the filming as brutal due to the very strict shooting schedules of the young stars who still have school studies to contend with, which demands he shoots six setups before they have to leave again.
Lensman Goldman told Andre Pilli (via Variety): You have to shoot really fast, and the faster you go, the more you compromise quality. Theres no way around it, right? Obviously, we have a lot of resources, but its brutal. The kids screen time is really brutal.
"So the methodology is very specific. You practically have to pre-shoot all the scenes while theyre in class Its really hard; you shoot everything out of order, right, because of that kind of scheduling."
Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden built a temporary school for the young actors to continue their studies with some days involving hundreds of kids on set.
The BBC previously reported that Three Rivers District Council permitted the studio to use a series of portable buildings as a school facility for the next decade.
"The proposed classrooms have been designed to be used by up to 600 pupils during peak periods, when large crowd scenes are shot, but will typically serve about 150 students."
The school operates weekdays between 5:30 am and 8:30 pm "so young actors can fit in their actual studies between night shoots, reshoots and location filming.
The first series of Harry Potter is in post production and Goldman added: "So the process is really complicated, but Ive done one now."
However, he's braced for more brutality as HBO is planning a seven-season adaptation of the JK Rowling books with six more to come.
The reboot features John Lithgow plays headmaster Dumbledore, Janet McTeer is Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu is Snape and Nick Frost is Rubeus Hagrid.
Harry Potter launches on HBO and HBO Max this December.
