A "beautiful" 23-year-old woman died after being attacked by three pit bulls she had been pet-sitting. Madison Hull was caring for the animals in her hometown of Tyler, Texas, when they turned on her and fatally mauled her.

A neighbour who heard the commotion rang 911, and when emergency services arrived at the property they discovered a female lying in the back garden. When officials attempted to approach the woman, the dogs charged at an officer, Sergeant Larry Christian told the Daily Mail. The officer managed to shoot and kill one of the dogs, Christian confirmed, which caused the other two to flee back into the house.

Detectives working on the case are liaising with the Smith County District Attorney's Office to establish whether the dogs' owners, who were reportedly away at the time, will face charges, Christian said.

Following Madison's death, a GoFundMe was established to help with her funeral expenses. Her mum, Jennifer Hubbell, wrote on the page that she was "shattered" by the news, saying: "My beautiful, full of love, full of life, free-spirited daughter was killed in a sudden and vicious dog attack."

"Madi was love, she was light, she was kindness, she was laughter, she was fierce in the most beautiful and disarming way. She loved life with her whole heart and moved through the world with a free-spirit that lifted those around her."

Madison was just six months shy of completing her degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Texas at Tyler, having "already found her true purpose in teaching young children".

Jennifer spoke fondly of her daughter, saying: "Her K-3rd grade students adored her. She had a gift for making every child feel safe, special, and loved. Madison's heart was made for that work."

She revealed that Madison had been acquainted with the dogs and had spent time around them for several weeks. On Facebook, she noted that one of the dogs was "very aggressive and temperamental".

In her post, Jennifer further explained: "The dogs attacked her and severed her brachial artery, under her arm, she was likely gone very quickly and all I can hope is that she did not know she was dying."
