Flights at Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands were grounded on Monday morning, causing lengthy delays and chaos for some 3,000 passengers.
The fault was detected around 11.30 this morning and incoming flights were prohibited until just before 3pm. The issues were triggered by a network failure in the Air Force control tower. Flights scheduled to land were rerouted via Rotterdam, Zaventem airport in Brussels, Maastricht and Weeze.
Several flights, including those to Rome, Bologna, Sofia, and Prague, were cancelled. The airport said there was "no flight traffic possible" at the gtime. The Royal Netherlands Air and Space Force has said it comes after a "network outage". They said in a statement: "Due to a network outage, no air traffic can be handled at Eindhoven Airport.
"It is still unclear when the disruption will be resolved. A solution is being worked on urgently."
Flights to Katowice, Rome FCO, Bologna, Vilnius and Sofia were cancelled. The disruption has now been resolved and flights can resume again. The cause of the disruption is still being investigated.
Meanwhile, 11 travel firms have gone into administration over recent months as the travel sector has been hammered by the continuing Middle East conflict. The shutdowns since the beginning of the year have sparked flight disruption and left workers facing job losses as a consequence.
