SEGA's Football Manager has confirmed their release window as well as their future plans following a huge company leak.

Sharing the news online, it understood that gaming giant SEGA will release Football Manager 2026 in Autumn of 2025. Adding to this, they have promised higher quality development for players. In a statement a few points were detailed, including how many people had purchased the game in previous years.

The statement read: "Significant improvement of the quality compared to the previous titles in the series by taking over the development assets of Football Manager 25."

It continued: "Scheduled to be released in fall 2025." The final point detailed: "Previous title in the series, Football Manager 2024 (releases in 2023), surpassed 17million accumulated players worldwide."

This came after SEGA experienced a leak on one of their PDF forms, which has inadvertently disclosed full sales numbers of some of the key software releases in recent years. This includes a Sonic title, which reached 4.5million in sales.

Football Manager had been through a turbulent production process, with an updated edition of FM25 being completely cancelled earlier this year.

After a series of cancellations and awkward silences from makers Sports Interactive and Sega, an announcement was made. It was announced in October that it was being delayed by a few weeks until November 26 due to issues with creating the game using a brand new system but that was then delayed a further five months.

It appears the game was cancelled entirely so the gaming company could focus entirely on Football Manager 26. The announcement of cancellation was made in February, with FM26 due in the autumn.

In a lengthy statement, a spokesman said: Sports Interactive regret to inform that, following extensive internal discussion and careful consideration with SEGA, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Football Manager 25 and shift our focus to the next release.

We know this will come as a huge disappointment, especially given that the release date has already moved twice, and you have been eagerly anticipating the first gameplay reveal. We can only apologise for the time it has taken to communicate this decision. Due to stakeholder compliance, including legal and financial regulations, today was the earliest date that we could issue this statement.

We have always prided ourselves on delivering the best value for money games that bring you countless hours of enjoyment, that feel worth every moment and every penny you spend. With the launch of FM25 we set out to create the biggest technical and visual advancement in the series for a generation, laying the building blocks for a new era."

They went on to claim that after extensive evaluation they are too far away from the standards you deserve and did not want to release the game in its current state.

It appears those improvements were funnelled into FM26, rather than 25. The exact date of release is not known, but fans should keep an eye out over the next few months.
