Three teenagers were taken to hospital after an incident in which a car was driven at people in north Co Dublin. Garda said they had responded to a public order incident at Harbour Road, Skerries on Saturday night (July 18).
Footage of the incident has been shared online and appears to show teens fighting moments before the incident, according to DublinLive. A group of teens can be seen running towards a white BMW that has one its back doors open.
The car is then seen reversing at speed before suddenly breaking hard. The car is then seen speeding forward before colliding with a group of teens that were at the side of the road. The Garda confirmed two females and one male, all described as teenagers, were injured during the incident.
A Garda spokesperson said: At approximately 9.30pm a large number of youths gathered and a fight broke out. During the course of the incident a car drove at a number of people.
Garda said three teenagers, two female and one male, were taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries. The spokesperson added: Investigations are ongoing.
Fianna Fil Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee said she was a family friend of one of the young women injured in the incident.
In a statement, she said: I am deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific incident that took place on Harbour Road, Skerries, yesterday evening.
There is absolutely no place for this kind of violence in our community. My thoughts are with her, the others injured, and all of their families. Thankfully, she is now home from hospital. I wish each of them a full and speedy recovery.
Ms Clifford-Lee said tensions have been building in the area following a significant increase in the number of young people visiting Skerries.
She said she had spoken to Minister for Justice Jim OCallaghan about the incident and asked for additional garda resources to be deployed as soon as possible.
