Gamers worldwide have reportedly been hit by a major outage with some PlayStation users claiming they have been left "unable to play".

Thousands of reports of an outage on the PlayStation Network (PSN) have been reported with a number of people taking to X (formerly Twitter) to say they are struggling to play.

Downdetector, which reports on outages, has seen over 6,000 problems recorded in the UK with a similar figure in the US and other places in Europe. Leading to some to speculate the outage is a worldwide issue.

Bizarrely during the outage, PlayStation Network Status platform reflected no issues despite the thousands of comments made by users.

However, Sony PlayStation have acknowledged at around 3pm UK time that there are problems with "all services are experiencing issues".

It says Account Management, Gaming and Social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct all affected by the outage. Some users have been able to gain access again while others are still having issues.

Several PlayStation users reported being unable to play online or any game that they had digitally purchased. It comes after Sony announced it would end physical game discs being made in the future.

One user said: " Turned on my PS5 only to wait several minutes just to get to the menu, wondering whats wrong, and now looking it up, PSN seems to be down.

"I cant even launch my digital games either. Nice to see youre well prepared for an all digital future."

Another wrote: "Whys my PlayStation not loading any games and wont let me sign in but also when I try shut it off it takes 40 seconds or more stuck on the screen."

A third commented: "The PlayStation Network is currently down and guess what? SOLO games without a disc aren't working."
