A couple who allegedly romped in the back of a moving tuk-tuk in Thailand have been arrested. The Peruvian woman, Cynthia, 42, and her Spanish boyfriend, Ruben, 41, are accused of having a steamy affair in full view of motorists on the holiday isle of Phuket.

Footage reportedly shows the woman crouching in the walkway of the vehicle while appearing to carry out a sexual act on the man. The rear of the vehicle was lit up by brilliant yellow lights, making the alleged obscene conduct plainly visible to other road users.

Officers from Patong Police Station subsequently tracked down the pair, whose identities were not revealed. Police Lieutenant Colonel Suchart Chumphusaeng of Patong district station said the couple have had their visas cancelled and will be expelled.

He said: "We believe that the couple were drunk at the time. But that is still no excuse.

"They had been drinking together on Bangla Road and were going towards the Kamala district when the woman began performing oral sex on the man inside the tuk-tuk bus.

"The investigating officers charged them with jointly committing an act that is likely to cause public embarrassment by exposing or revealing their bodies, or committing other indecent acts.

"However, because this conduct damaged Thailand's tourism image and public morality, the Phuket Immigration Bureau immediately deported them and is preparing to compile information to place them on a blacklist."

Public sex and indecency carry penalties of up to 5,000 baht under Thai legislation. Yet the deterrent has failed to stop tourists from indulging in outdoor nudity.

On April 12, French pair Halan and Nadia, both aged 24, faced arrest following a brazen sexual encounter on Rayee Beach. The duo were expelled from the country after shocking footage emerged showing the naked Parisian woman mounting her boyfriend as they gyrated energetically in plain sight of bewildered onlookers.

On February 27 last year, another visiting couple engaged in intercourse on the rear of a driver's tuk-tuk. The motorist left them at a Karon hotel after they ignored his protests.

Several weeks later on April 23, a pair were discovered having relations in a hotel room with open windows. Subsequently, the woman emerged onto the balcony unclothed and lit a cigarette while horrified pedestrians watched.

Meanwhile in September of that year, Russian citizen Georgii Dzugkoev, 23, was spotted engaging in sex on a moving black Ford pickup, gripping the waist of a Thai woman who clutched a rope fastened to the truck bed. Authorities apprehended him the following day at Suvarnabhumi Airport, while the driver, Alex, 25, surrendered himself on September 26.

On January 2 this year, a taxi driver ejected a Russian couple who were having intercourse in his vehicle. The pair declined to cease when requested and reportedly attempted to assault the cabbie.

Two days later, two inebriated men were apprehended engaging in oral sex on a pavement near Patong Beach. Police arrested Saudi national Abdulmalik Hassan Alharbi, 33, at Zag Club and were in pursuit of his partner.
