A father who woke up in the middle of the night received the shock of his life when he went to check on his baby daughter through their baby monitor, only to discover she was missing from her cot.
Thomas Weir from Oxfordshire is among a number of parents who have recounted the moment they awoke in the middle of the night from an unusual sound at one o'clock in the morning. After waking up the father checked his baby monitor only to realise his baby daughter had vanished from her cot.
Posting on TikTok, he shared the video footage from the baby monitor, which was positioned to capture the entire baby's cot. But the cot was entirely empty, much to his alarm. The dad said: "When you check the monitor at 1:00am and think your baby has been snatched," the overlay text on the video read, as the camera moved side to side to show the cot being empty.
"Has she fallen out?" the father said. The dad revealed he then dashed into his daughter's room to check if she was there. Thomas explained while his daughter was nearly one, she had been born five weeks early and hadn't reached the stage where she was crawling or pulling herself up.
Since the child could not even crawl yet, he didn't believe it would have been possible for her to have tumbled out on her own, reports the Mirror. This prompted Thomas to spring into action and leap out of bed to go check on his daughter and ensure she was safe.
He said: "Once I woke up a bit I realised I couldn't see her at all when moving the camera so ran in to go check on her." This is when the baby decided to come back into view, and he couldn't believe where she'd been hiding.
On the video, Thomas wrote a "little fart" could be heard before his daughter rolled out from where she'd been hiding which was right under the camera meaning it hadn't been able to detect her.
Much to Thomas' relief, his daughter was still safe and sound in her cot, and he could finally relax knowing everything was fine. However it appears Thomas isn't the only one who's experienced this. Several other parents quickly took to the comment section to share their own experiences of having a blind spot in the cot.
One parent said: "No I have the same blind spot and he always goes there I moved the camera to the other corner and now he sleeps in that corner." Another person shared: "My boy did this the other day and the alarm started going off, I've never woken up in such a panic!"
A third viewer added: "They just love to keep us on our toes." A final one said: "Genuinely expected you to run in holding the baby, from my own experience."
Thomas disclosed he has since repositioned the baby monitor to a different spot, where he's certain to capture the entire cot in view, including the previously concealed corners.
