GB News halted for major Ann Widdecombe 'murder' update after man, 28, arrested

GB News was interrupted for a significant update on the death of Ann Widdecombe. Former Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley revealed that a significant announcement is anticipated later today (July 13).

The ex-Tory minister was tragically discovered to have died at her Haytor home on Dartmoor on Thursday (July 9) morning, having suffered severe injuries, with Devon and Cornwall Police have suggested that Widdecombe, who was 78, was assaulted around 12.30pm on Wednesday last week.

Bleksley appeared on GB News to dissect the police investigation into the murder of the Strictly Come Dancing star. He expressed his belief that Devon and Cornwall Police will have been provided with all necessary resources due to the "huge inquiry".

Sharing his knowledge of the case, Bleksley noted there has been collaboration between counter-terrorism police in the north west, but stressed: "There is no suggestion there is a terror-related crime."

Over the weekend, police announced that a 28-year-old man had been apprehended in South Yorkshire on suspicion of Widdecombe's murder, as per the Express.

Drawing from his experience as a detective, Bleksley offered some insight into how Devon and Cornwall Police are likely conducting their investigation.

He stated: "We know the arrest of this suspect was at nine o'clock on Saturday evening. What I imagine we will hear at around nine o'clock is whether the police are going to apply to a magistrate for an extension to the amount of time they can detain that person for.

"It wouldn't surprise me if they do go to the court and are granted an extension because the police will be gathering evidence, and quite often in cases such as this, they are waiting for the results of forensic examinations."

He went on to add that forensic evidence is highly likely to be used as the key factor linking the suspect to the crime, as it has been in many modern cases.

Bleksley continued: "I think there will be an announcement which will tell us either that a court has granted an extension and this person remains in custody, or that person might be released, either on bail or with other conditions attached."

The former detective clarified that police could also confirm whether charges are being brought forward or not, adding that he is certain a "significant update" on Widdecombe's murder will be made public this morning.
