GTA studio Rockstar North building cordoned off after reports of 'explosion'

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) mobilised multiple appliances to Holyrood Road in the Scottish capital at around 5.02am on Monday, January 19

GTA studio Rockstar North's building has reportedly been cordoned off after reports of an 'explosion'.


Edinburgh fire crews have been dispatched to the Holyrood area as part of a significant emergency services response.


The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent several appliances to Holyrood Road at approximately 5.02am on Monday, January 19.


The exact details of the incident remain unclear, but it's believed that the Rockstar North building on the city street has been cordoned off by police, with rumours indicating an "explosion in a boiler room" as the cause.

Rockstar games is responsible for some of the world's most successful games, including the most anticipated game ever in GTA6.

Rockstar is the developer of the long-awaited GTA6


The next instalment in the GTA series is currently being developed, having already reportedly racked up costs of $1 billion. It's due to be released on November 19, 2026 after a series of setbacks and 13 years after GTA V.

The SFRS have confirmed their continued presence at the scene more than two hours after the initial call, reports Edinburgh Live.

A spokesperson stated: "We were alerted at 5.02am on Monday, 19 January to attend an incident on Holyrood Road, Edinburgh.

"Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where firefighters worked to secure structural damage at a commercial building. There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene at 9.21am."

Police Scotland and Rockstar Games have been contacted for comment.
