A "living piece of history" that inspired the famous wand shop in Harry Potter is up for sale with a staggering 1.8m asking price. The breathtaking property, nestled in Goodwin's Court, dates back to around 1700, a mere 34 years after the Great Fire of London.

Nestled among a row of Grade II listed buildings in Covent Garden, the property has endured over 300 years and is now being celebrated as a unique window into the capital's history. It has been subject to a meticulous 10-year restoration, with specialists "peeling back" layers of history to uncover an impressive array of original features.

The home is characterised as a "rare survivor" of Georgian working-class housing and a genuine slice of London's rich heritage.

It's also reputed to have inspired Ollivanders Wand Shop in the Harry Potter films, with the atmospheric street, illuminated by one of London's last gas lamps, attracting fans from across the globe.

Inside, the property brims with historical allure. A preserved staircase descends to a kitchen bursting with character, featuring a York stone floor, period fireplace and a Mrs Beeton "beetonette" range oven.

Modern appliances are ingeniously concealed, while exposed beams have been delicately restored and paired with a subtle fire safety system. There's also room for a dining table, seamlessly blending old-world charm with contemporary living.

A salvaged door opens into a Georgian-style bathroom containing a period WC and washbasin. At ground level, the reception area showcases an impressive bow window from the early 1700s.

Period features survive throughout including a central hearth, built-in shelving and original timber panelling.

In a distinctive tribute to its former commercial use, weathered areas in the floorboards show where a shopkeeper once worked for countless years.

Above, the first floor houses a double bedroom with an original fireplace, restored panelling and ingeniously adapted cupboards containing a period WC and basin.

A further double bedroom occupies the floor overhead, complete with refurbished floorboards, panelled walls and a restored fireplace bordered by traditional cupboards.

The dwelling still preserves original 1700s-era pegs and roof tiles with only minor structural modifications undertaken across the centuries.
