Jamie Carragher spitting: What happened? Who did he spit on? Should he be sacked from Sky?

JAMIE Carragher has caused outrage after spitting at a Manchester United fan and his daughter but what exactly happened and should he be sacked?

Football pundit and ex Liverpool player Carragher has been suspended by Sky Sports for the rest of the football season after the incident on Saturday.

Sky Sports says it is taking the matter extremely seriously.

The broadcaster said: "Following an internal review, Sky has suspended Jamie Carragher for the remainder of the football season.

"Jamie has taken full responsibility for what has happened and we will ensure he gets the help he needs to guarantee something like this never happens again."

He has since apologised twice for the incident, which he called a moment of madness.

Now there have been calls for Carragher to get sacked from Sky Sports permanently.

Footage of the former Liverpool and England defender emerged of him spitting at a dad and his daughter.

In the footage, Carragher could be seen driving in his car while a man driving next to him taunted him about Liverpools 2-1 defeat against Manchester United.

In the clip, the man keeps repeating the scoreline, and his daughter can be heard next to him, telling him to stop.

The man rolls down the passenger-side window where his daughter was sitting so they Carragher can hear him more clearly.

He said: 2-1, 2-1, unlucky Jamie lad, 2-1 lad.

Carragher then responds by spitting at the window.

The daughter tells her dad: He spat on me, to which he responds: Jamie Carragher spat at my daughter nice, nice, very nice Jamie Carragher.

Carragher was filmed spitting at a dad and his 14-year-old daughter sitting in the passenger seat.

After initially keeping his identity a secret, the dad has gone public after being outed yesterday.

The father is Andy Hughes, a die-hard Manchester United fan from Colwyn Bay.

Hughes was filming while driving and taunted Carragher, but it was the girl who was hit in the face.

They were driving about two miles from Old Trafford after the match.

Carragher has since said: Its my biggest devastation that a young 14-year-old has become embroiled in this.

Ive got a daughter the same age Its difficult to find the words for the way Id react.

Carragher was grilled by Sky news yesterday afternoon in a tough interview with Sarah Hewson.

He said: It was a moment of madness, its difficult for me to explain.

Its just that moment of madness for four or five seconds. No matter the circumstances, you cant ever behave like that.

You cant obviously condone that behaviour no matter what. In any way shape or form, where you are, who you represent. Ive let Sky Sports down, my family and the family involved.

The girls 38-year-old mum was furious at Carragher for spitting.

She said: I was extremely angry and disappointed that he could even bring himself to do something like that. Looking at her, you know she is a child.

He has since been suspended by Sky Sports for the rest of the football season, where he is employed as a pundit.

Sky Sports confirmed yesterday he had been suspended.

The broadcaster said in a statement: Sky takes this matter extremely seriously and strongly condemns Jamies actions, we have made that clear to him in person today and suspended him from his duties.

Carragher did not appear on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.

Carragher has said: I havent offered my resignation. Im just talking to people at Sky and going forward and theyve made it be known that theyre very disappointed.

Many people believe he should get sacked.

One person wrote on Twitter: He should be sacked from Sky Sports and they should strip his premier league winner medals away from him.

Another wrote: Jamie Carragher is disgusting for what he did and should be sacked.

A third added: Sacked and prosecuted: spitting is a criminal offence in this country. Thats before we bring in to the fact it was a 14-year-old girl he assaulted. These celebrities defending their mate are as pathetic.

However, some were more sympathetic with Carragher.

One wrote: If Jamie Carragher gets sacked Im never watching sky sports again.

Another supporter said: Hes a person too, if you did that to any other Liverpool fan they might do the same so what did the guy expect?

When asked if he should be sacked, Carragher said: Well again, it doesnt matter if I say yes or no. Thats down to the powers above.

The girls dad has now come forward to Sky to beg them not to sack the Liverpool Legend.

He told the Mirror: We dont want him to lose his job. Its not about that. We wanted an apology and explanation.

He seems contrite. Everyone makes mistakes, we are all human.
