A former Marine turned adult star has revealed how her x-rated career allows her to spend up to $1,000 (750) a month helping homeless people.
Abby Rose says success in the adult industry means she can buy food, water, blankets and other essentials for between 50 and 200 people every month.
Speaking to her 364,000 followers on her Instagram account @itsabbyrosemain, Abby said: "My brother has struggled with severe mental health issues and drug addiction since he was young. I've seen first-hand how easy it is for somebody's life to spiral. Watching somebody you love go through that changes you."
While serving in the Marines, Abby founded a nonprofit coffee shop to help people experiencing homelessness, investing everything she had into the project.
Although she eventually had to close it, she says helping vulnerable people has remained one of the biggest priorities in her life.
She said: "We go out once a month and help anywhere from 50 to 200 people at a time. If it's winter, we'll take blankets. If it's summer, we'll take water and snacks. I spend around $500 to $1,000 every month on supplies for people in need."
Abby who lives in Houston, Texas, says before finding success online, she was struggling financially herself. Following the breakdown of her relationship after leaving the Marines, she had no money, had sold her car and invested all of her savings into the nonprofit.
She eventually turned to stripping to survive before building a successful online career, now earning up to $50,000 some months. Rather than simply enjoying the lifestyle her success has brought, Abby says she is determined to use part of her income to help others.
She said: "People judge those living on the streets, but they rarely know how they ended up there. You can't always help somebody who doesn't want help, especially when severe mental illness is involved. But everybody deserves water. Everybody deserves food. And everybody deserves somewhere safe to sleep."
Although many people criticise her career, Abby says she knows the difference she is making. She said: "People can judge how I make my money if they want.
"But every time I'm handing somebody a bottle of water, I think about my brother. I just hope somebody is doing the same for him."
