The Met Office has warned that some areas of the UK will experience snow this week as the mercury drops. The national weather service has cautioned temperatures could plummet to as low as -5C in some regions. BBC weather experts also predict snow is to hit on Wednesday.
The Met Office prediction indicates Wednesday will feel "markedly colder" throughout all areas. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates has suggest the deep freeze could be "quite a shock to the system".
Rain, sleet and hail downpours are anticipated "potentially quite widely", the Met Office states, while snow is "likely over higher ground in the north". The BBC also reports Brits in some areas of the country are to experience colder temperatures in the coming days.
The BBC stated: "Wednesday will see a chilly and windy day with sunny spells and showers, these wintry over the hills."
Despite possible sunshine in lower-lying areas, the Met Office warns conditions will feel bitter due to "wind chill". And moving into Wednesday night, temperatures are forecast to drop further. The mercury could nosedive to -5C in certain parts of rural Scotland overnight, reports the Mirror.
The Met office reports: "Most places remain dry with sunny spells on Thursday, although cloud and rain pushes into Northern Ireland and western parts later on. Temperatures return closer to average from Friday onwards, though further weather systems may affect the UK at the weekend, most likely affecting northern areas."
Looking beyond, the Met Office stated this weekend will deliver "changeable" conditions as "frontal systems move across the UK, bringing rain and stronger winds at times."
The Met Office forecast for March 28 to April 6 stated: "Weather fronts are likely to be more active across northern areas, thus the wettest and windiest conditions are more likely here.
"As they come south, often running in to a ridge of higher pressure extending from the southwest, frontal systems will often be weaker and rainfall amounts smaller. In this setup, temperatures will probably pan out close to average overall, with some overnight frost where skies are clear and winds light."
Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin added Wednesday will signal a "cold plunge" and Scotland could see the white stuff. He explained: "If we look at the temperature profile for the next few days, then we really notice that difference by the time we get to Wednesday.
"Temperatures by Wednesday [will be] single digits for many, and that's the max, so it's going to get cold at night.
