Punters boycott Wetherspoons pub during legal wrangle over boozer's name

The national chain recently filed a legal claim against the Conwy pub after it added "Wetherspoons Limited" to its signage - but now it has reverted back to its original name

A boozer caught in a tussle with JD Wetherspoon has ditched the controversial new name it cheekily nicked from the mega-chain and gone back to its original moniker.

The national pub giant threw the book at the Conwy local for slapping "Wetherspoons Limited" on its signage without permission.

Back in March, punters shunned The Pen-Y-Bont Inn in North Wales after it swapped its proud Welsh title for the English-named "The Bridge Head," sparking outrage and cries of "ridiculous".

Not to worry though, the establishment's spokesman has declared they've performed a swift U-turn six weeks ago, reverting signs and everything back to the good old days, North Wales Live reports.

At the time, a spokesman for Wetherspoon said: "Despite a number of requests to the pub owners to remove the reference to Wetherspoons, they refused and we have therefore had to issue court proceedings asking the court order that they do so. We hope that the matter can still be resolved amicably."

Post-leasehold drama, the rep confirmed, "The pub has been taken back in hand by the owner and everything is back as it used to be. The Pen-Y-Bont has gone back to being the old Pen-Y-Bont! " while pulling a victory pint.

Sir Tim Martin, the boss of JD Wetherspoon, shared his two cents on why they had to get the lawyers involved, noting: "We're well known in Wales. Welsh poets Goldie Looking Chain have even memorialised us in song."

The band took a cheeky jab with their lyrics in "Is It Wetherspoons", rapping: "Like an old folks home if it had a bar, full of people who probably read The Star. In every major city, in every major town, if you can't find a Wetherspoons, you're a f***ing clown."

They didn't stop there, also mocking the chain's tunes with: "No jukebox the vibe is kind of subdued, but they've got polite staff and acceptable food."
