Terrifying bangs and massive screams heard from Britain's most haunted home

Loud bangs and cries for help have been heard from the giant - but now deserted - stately home, known as the "devil mound"

Bangs have been heard in the manor

A "hub for devils" is terrifying locals - after massive screams of help were heard from the deserted hallways of Britain's most haunted stately home. Shugborough Hall, the ancestral home of the Earls of Lichfield in Staffordshire, is now empty and lies at the heart of Cannock Chase, said to be home of Bigfoot and the Black Eyed Ghost children. Ghost hunters have warned activity in the forest has been up since the start of the year and now that has extended to the home at the heart of the woods.

Paranormal expert Robert Pulme said: "We have been regularly monitoring the woods in the past six months and activity is definitely up and it seems like we are in a period of transition at the moment. So much more thermal activity and nighttime wandering - we have put it down to changes in the world unrooting the paranormal one - but now that seems to be extending to other parts of the forest.

The home is in Cannock Chase

"Shugborough Hall is steeped in paranormal lore, there's lots of historic stories." The name of the hall is said to translate from Anglo-Saxon as "devil mound," and the estate is said to be the site of multiple enduring ghost stories, ranging from an ill-fated countess to wandering spirits.

"There's rumours that the home is haunted by Lady Harriet Georgina Hamilton - the wife of the 2nd Earl of Lichfield who lived there before - who tragically died in childbirth. Visitors and former residents report a noticeable drop in temperature in certain rooms and are said to hear her clothes rustling and footsteps.

"Now we have had reports of screams asking for help in the grounds of the home." The historic property and estate are fully managed by the National Trust. "The public can visit," Pulme continued.

An old woman is said to roam the halls

"But it is known that even local dogs being walked in the area are staying away unlike they would normally. There have even been massive bangs heard from the hallways when the place is shut up - it is terrifying."

Author Lee Brickley has been researching the area and the paranormal for two decades. He said: Cannock Chase is one of the most fascinating locations in the whole of the UK.

"I think it is possible that Cannock Chase is a portal area where strange and unusual entities can cross over into our world from another place, even if it only happens for brief moments.

Bangs have been heard in the manor

"Cannock Chase is known around the world as being a place where people encounter entities such as the Pigman, werewolves, ghosts, phantom hitchhikers, and perhaps most famously, the black-eyed child. In recent years, the sheer number of sighting reports is enough to make anyone shiver, and I believe things could be coming to a head somewhat in the near future. The portal seems to be widening to allow more and more unusual beings into this world with every year that passes. I believe it is entirely possible that something exceptionally big is coming.
