UK's favourite holiday hotspot island issued major warning as Brits no longer spending money

Spain has long been a favourite holiday destination for Brits, but there are concerns about Majorca, as industry officials report overall in-destination spending has dropped compared to recent years

A major crisis is brewing in one of the most beloved holiday hotspots for British people. For countless Britons, Spain has consistently been the premier holiday choice for reasons including its value for money, closeness to the UK, and its numerous attractions.

Nevertheless, there are worries about one specific location in the beloved country, as authorities claim total expenditure has declined compared to recent years.

President of the Aviba association of travel agencies in the Balearics, Pedro Fiol, says that while statistics show higher spending, "travel infrastructure has become more expensive and travellers are spending less in their destination".

Travel infrastructure covers both lodging and transport, while in-destination expenditure includes activities at bars, restaurants, shops, and excursions. In Majorca, in-destination expenditure appears to be declining.

According to Juanmi Ferrer, president of the CAEB Restaurants Association, while rising food costs are playing a major part in the struggles of the broader hospitality sector, he also observed that tourists are dining out less, Majorca Daily Bulletin reports, reports the Express.

He said, "July started off weaker than expected. The average bill has decreased, as has the number of meals served."

The same trend is evident in the transport sector, with Rafel Riog, president of the transport federation, noting that "July is proving to be quite bad" and that holidaymakers are spending fewer days on the island.
