The globe's largest rolling jackpot game, Powerball, has finally landed in the UK with a whopping 300 million opening prize. The American lottery sensation delivers jaw-dropping jackpots that have previously soared beyond $1 billion across the pond.
The term 'life-changing' barely scratches the surface when describing the potential winnings.
UK punters must purchase tickets by 11:55pm on Monday, Wednesday or Saturday for the following draw. The draws occur during the early hours of Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with the inaugural UK draw scheduled for Thursday, July 23 at approximately 4am.
Taking part is straightforward - select five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26. Punters can choose a Lucky Dip where numbers are selected randomly, with tickets priced at 4 per line.
The lottery game is straightforward, but the odds of matching all six numbers are 1 in 292,201,338. But there have been some numbers drawn more than others since Powerball increased its white ball pool from 59 to 69 and reduced its Powerball pool from 35 to 26 in 2015.
Winners won't collect their prize in one go Powerball winnings are distributed across 30 annual instalments. Should multiple winners match all numbers across participating countries, the jackpot will be divided amongst them.
Operator Allwyn announced that tickets went on sale earlier this week and the current estimated jackpot is a whopping $416million (311million).
Andy Carter, Senior Winners' Advisor at Allwyn, who offers support to winners bagging 50,000 or more, told GB News that Powerball represents a "massive opportunity" for UK players to get involved in the game.
He said: "Powerball is the biggest lottery in the world. If you like, the UK is joining it as the 49th state. The jackpot has no limit. There's no cap to how it can grow... Theoretically, someone could win 1billion in this country."
Since 2021, the jackpot has rolled over to $1billion on six occasions. On one of those occasions, it rolled over to more than $2billion.
"This is generational wealth. If you win 300million on this week's Powerball draw, that is not just you, or your children, or your grandchildren; that's generations to come."
Draws will take place three times a week from the Powerball studio in Florida. Results can be verified the morning following the draw by visiting http://www.lottery.co.uk.
