Vile thug jailed for spitting blood in female officer's eye leaving her in tears

Temisan Oritsejafor, 41, has been jailed for eight months after spitting at PC Anne Napier while he was being arrested outside his flat at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic

Coventry: Man spits in police officers face during arrest

The sickening moment a vile thug spat blood into a female police officers eye has emerged after the attacker was jailed for eight months.

Temisan Oritsejafor, 41, attacked PC Anne Napier as he was being arrested for assaulting his neighbour.

Bodycam footage shows Oritsejafor being handcuffed on the floor outside his flat in Wyken, Coventry on April 18 by PC Napier and another officer.

But when he is dragged up on to his feet, he faces the female cop and spits in her face.

During the incident, he had suffered a bloody nose his spit was mixed with blood.

Oritsejafor is tackled to the ground before the camera turns to face a visibly distressed PC Napier.

She tearfully tells colleagues: He got me in my eye, Im alright. Im just worried about all that coronavirus.

The coronavirus pandemic was at its peak around the time of the attack with official figures suggesting more than 1,000 people died every day for 22 days in April.

Oritsejafor admitted common assault and two charges of common assault on emergency workers at Warwick Crown Court in May.

He was jailed for eight months and ordered to pay a 149 victim surcharge yesterday.

Prosecutor Mark Phillips said: "A male officer who believed he was being aggressive took him to the floor, and was assisted by a female colleague, PC Napier, to restrain him.

"As they're getting him up, he spits into the officer's face.

"That is spit and blood, because he had had a bleeding nose earlier, and it catches her straight in the eye."

The CCTV recording was played in court, with Mr Phillips noting she was clearly upset and very shaken indeed.

PC Napier, who tested negative for Covid-19, said: "As frontline officers, we know that we put ourselves in potential danger, but we now face the added risk of Covid-19 infection which then also puts our families at risk.

"It's a shock when someone spits in your face and very unpleasant, so I'm pleased the force and the courts take these assaults so seriously."

Shockingly, it is not the only time suspects have spat at officers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
