A woman was drugged and gang raped by four men who dumped her in a field, it is claimed. The victim, 24, was allegedly given a spiked drink while collecting food for livestock in Muzaffarnagar, India.

She was then said to have been subjected to the horror ordeal before her attackers fled, leaving her abandoned in a field. Police have launched an investigation and a manhunt for four suspects in connection with the incident.

Her anxious family started a search for her after she failed to return home and found her in a nearby forest. The incident occurred in a village in the Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, June 13, local media reports.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and is believed to be in a stable condition, the Express reports. She told cops she had been given a drugged drink by the men who then assaulted her.

Local police officers, led by Senior Superintendent Sanjay Kumar, have launched an urgent manhunt to track down the attackers, the Times of India reported.

It's reported that three police teams have been deployed to find the suspects. They are continuing to urge the public to come forward with relevant information.

Police have identified one of the suspect as a man called Umer. However, they have not released his surname and have not identified the other three suspects in the reported attack, who are said to be still be on the run.

It comes after a spate of recent rapes were reported

Muzaffarnagar is a state in the Indian district of Uttar Pradesh. It has an estimated population of over 4.1 million, including around 744,000 residents in its metropolitan region.

The horror comes after several other distressing attacks were reported to have taken place in recent weeks.

On June 3, a 41-year-old woman reported being subjected to a gang rape by a group of 10 individuals in Karnataka, south west India.
