As he landed in Glasgow, Scotland, on Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump implored Europe to "stop buying windmills".
His comments were made upon his arrival at the airport at 8:30 p. m. local time, where he was welcomed by a throng of supporters. During his multi-day sojourn, Trump will be staying at several of his Scottish golf resorts before engaging in discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on trade and tariffs.
Stepping off Air Force One, Trump voiced his two primary concerns about Europe - windmills and immigration, both of which he asserted were "killing" the region.
"Stop the windmills. You're ruining your countries, I really mean it," Trump declared to the press at Glasgow Prestwick Airport, reports the Irish Star.
"It's so sad, you fly over and you see these windmills are all over the place, spoiling your beautiful fields and valleys and killing your birds, if they're stuck in your ocean, ruining your oceans.
"Stop the windmills."
Trump has a history of criticising the windmill industry.
He even went as far as unsuccessfully suing over a windfarm that he claimed obstructed the view from one of his Scottish golf courses.
A video of Trump's remarks was posted on X by journalist Aaron Rupar, sparking a flurry of responses.
The president's remarks sparked outrage among many users, particularly given the prominent use of windmills in several European countries, such as the Netherlands, which are renowned for their commitment to clean energy.
Some users took to X to express their discontent, with one writing, "Netherlands would like a word with you," highlighting the country's famous windmill attractions.
Another user sarcastically quipped, "Why? Are they making us look bad by being progressive?".
Others pointed out that the United States also has its fair share of windmills, with one user commenting, "He's never been to Colorado or Texas?".
Meanwhile, Trump is set to spend the weekend at his golf properties near Turnberry, before heading to another one of his golf properties in Aberdeen next week, where he plans to unveil a second golf course.
