NIGEL Farage has been accused of running scared of his main political rival Count Binface by backing a bid to ban him.

His party Reform UK are in favour of outlawing all face coverings in public - which would include his "independent space warrior" opponent.

Count Binface - the alter ego of scriptwriter and author Jonathan Harvey - is being backed heavily by Brits ahead of taking on Farage in the Clacton by-election.

Labour MP Joe Powell scoffed: "We all know Nigel Farage is scared of a man with a bin on his head, but banning Binface outright is ridiculous.

"Using the law to stop a comedy character whos been humiliating their leader just makes them look like a bunch of chickens. "Banning Binface won't stop Farage from having to answer for his multimillion pound scandals."

Last February Farage criticised face coverings in public and made it clear that he was not just talking about religious face coverings such as the burka.

He said: "I think face coverings in public are problematic for many, many reasons, not just religious ones."

The stance was also backed at the time by Reform's Home Affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf who supported a crackdown.

He said: "I personally support a ban on all face coverings in public thats actually a piece of legislation that has multiple bonuses to it because its going to aid integrations, its also going to help people feel safe.

Labour MP Joe Powell scoffed: "We all know Nigel Farage is scared of a man with a bin on his head, but banning Binface outright is ridiculous.

"If youre walking down a pavement and someone is walking in the opposite direction towards you at dusk, and they are wearing a hoodie and a balaclava, or worse, you generally cross the road.

"Our view at Reform is that we should ban face coverings in all sorts like they do in France.

"Theres a lot of people wandering around with their faces covered and its quite menacing."
