An elderly woman has died after a row in a popular food chain restaurant turned violent, according to a police report.
Video footage released by Fort Wayne, Indiana cops appears to show 75-year-old Anita Grayson collapsed minutes after a brawl erupted inside the branch of Tim Hortons, a popular caf chain in the US. Police believe that the violent altercation took place between Ms Grayson and a 20-year-old employee at the establishment, after Grayson entered to complain about a drive-thru order on May 13.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, a the Tim Hortons shift lead stepped in and repeatedly told Grayson to leave before the situation exploded into violence.
Police said: Ms. Grayson then forcefully shoved the shift lead backward. At 8:12 a.m. Ms. Grayson then struck the shift lead on the left side of the nose with her right hand.
Cops claim the pair then became locked in a brutal struggle, during which Grayson allegedly clawed at the workers face, knocked off her glasses and dragged her to the floor by her hair.
In the most shocking moment of the statement, police said employees struggled to free the manager as Ms. Grayson pulled a chunk of hair from the shift leads head, leaving a raw area on the top of her head", according to Police.
After the fight ended, workers retreated behind the counter while Grayson sat down and spoke on her phone. Police say she later picked the employees hair up off the floor and put it in her bag before suddenly collapsing around 10 minutes later.
The shift lead noticed and went to check on her, bringing her a cup of water, officers said. A FWPD officer then arrived and found Ms. Grayson unresponsive.
Paramedics performed life-saving measures at the scene before Grayson was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police stressed that the official cause of death has not yet been determined and said the investigation file has now been sent to prosecutors.
The department also said it released the footage because of what it described as a dangerously false narrative spreading online through partial clips of the fight.
A statement read: "FWPD understands the public concern surrounding this case.
"We also recognize the importance of transparency, accuracy, and allowing the investigative and prosecutorial review process to proceed based on the full body of evidence, not incomplete video clips or inaccurate public narratives."
The family of Ms. Grayson have responded to the incident.
Graysons daughter, Tawnda Grayson, said that her mother suffered from congestive heart failure and was wearing a heart monitor just a week before the fight as she demanded action.
she told WPTA, You should not enter a coffee shop for a coffee and a doughnut and come out unalived. That is diabolical.
Thats the elderly lady. Thats not how we treat our senior citizens. We be careful with them. We make sure that theyre all right. We dont jump on them and attack them. And scare them to death.
