Police responded to a major incident at busy train station after a female passenger was stabbed to death in a horror attack in broad daylight.
The woman, who has not been named, died from her injuries despite the best efforts of first responders on the scene on Saturday afternoon (May 30).
The incident occurred at the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authoritys (MARTA) Oakland City Station in Atalanta, Georgia, at around 12pm. The woman was tabbed in front of several horrified witnesses at he busy station in what has been described as a senseless daylight attack.
Speaking to Fox Atlanta, MARTA officials said in a statement: "This appears to be a senseless act of violence, and our thoughts are with the victims loved ones and those who witnessed this horrific incident.
"We understand the concern and fear incidents like this can cause for those who ride and work on the MARTA system. MARTA Police are actively investigating and remain committed to the safety and security of our riders and employees."
An unidentified suspect was immediately arrested by MARTA police but officials are yet to release the identity of the victim or the person currently in custody.
Details on the stabbing, including possible charges, have also not been made public as of yet.
The incident reportedly occurred in front of several people with regularly users of the service now worried following the attack occurring during a busy daytime period.
Speaking to Fox Atlanta, train service user Mantonio Huff said: "It's crazy, just need more security, for real. Watching everywhere. They really need to block it off where homeless people can't come in because it's getting bad out here.
Another passenger Maurice McCaslin said: "You just have to be prepared to defend yourself, and just a random attack out the blue, thats just crazy."
