CNN's chief medical analyst has suggested that Donald Trump may be overdue for medical evaluations, following the President's social media posts boasting about cognitive tests he claims to have "aced."
President Trump took to Truth Social last Thursday (30), writing that "anybody running for President or Vice President should be forced to take a Cognitive Examination prior to entering the Race!"
He then made pointed insinuations regarding Barack Obama and Joe Biden's mental capabilities, adding: "I took the Exam three times during my ("THREE!") Terms as President, and ACED IT ALL THREE TIMES - An Achievement that, even on a single Exam, according to the Doctors, has rarely been done before!"
The test the President referenced is widely understood to be the Montreal Cognitive Test, a standard assessment used to identify conditions such as Alzheimer's or dementia.
Trump revisited the subject on Monday at the White House Small Business Summit, reports the Mirror US.
He stated: "Whenever they get a little sassy, saying, 'Does he still have it? Does it still have what it takes?' I say, 'I'll take another one. The first question is very easy [...] By the time you get to the middle, they're very tough. One doctor said, 'It's the first time I've ever seen anyone get all questions right. That's a doctor, who does this stuff for a living."
On X, Jonathan Reiner, a Professor of Medicine and Surgery and Interventional Cardiologist who serves as CNN's official Medical Analyst, raised concerns over how often the President undergoes examinations.
"I agree with the president that anyone running for POTUS should have a comprehensive medical, cognitive, and psychiatric assessment prior to the election," he posted.
However, he expanded on the requirements, stating: "I also believe that the president should be required to undergo such an evaluation once a year, and the report should be submitted to Congress. BTW, the president is overdue for his annual exam."
Just a month away from turning 80, Donald Trump is the oldest individual in American history to assume the presidency, and recent coverage from international media outlets has raised questions about his physical and mental capabilities.
As of May 2026, the most comprehensive medical information about Donald Trump was published in April 2025, with additional, brief updates concerning an MRI issued in November 2025, performed at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
The records noted a previous Covid infection, rosacea and a benign colon polyp, but otherwise satisfactory health conditions.
In July, Trump was also confirmed to have chronic venous insufficiency. Subsequently, he underwent a second "routine yearly checkup" in October.
Firing back at Reiner's remarks, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle stated: "President Trump is the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in American history, and any so-called medical professionals engaging in armchair diagnosis or false speculation for political purposes are clearly breaking the Hippocratic Oath they've sworn to."
