'World's worst' prison for terrorism revealed, where inmates sleep on bedframes and scream in concrete boxes.
New footage of El Salvador's Centre for the Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT) has shown inside Trump's deportation facility for the first time. The controversial prison is said to house not just people deported from the US, but highly dangerous members of gangs, such as the notorious Tren de Aragua.
But the allegedly 'inhumane' conditions of the CECOT are sparking widespread disapproval. In this high-security prison, inmates are said to have their heads shaved every five days, eat with their hands, and live in dramatically overcrowded cells.
LadBible reported that the CECOT holds up to 100 people per cell, yet only 80 beds can be found per enclosure. The beds are also said to be metal frames with no mattresses.
Inmates have little hope outside of these cells, allegedly only receiving 30 minutes of supervised exercise each day - the only activity that takes them out of their pens. No visitors are permitted.
Dubbed a 'black hole of human rights', the footage shows the men incarcerated in CECOT pressing rattling the prison bars, screaming and pressing themselves against the confines. The prison also allegedly contains solitary confinement cells, which have been described as 'little more than concrete boxes'.
The video was shared by US Republican politician Matt Gaetz - an ex-congressmen and ally of Trump that made headlines for his widely criticised career.
The New York Times noted accusations of Gaetz including "sexual misconduct and illicit drug use; sharing inappropriate images or videos on the House floor; misusing state identification records; converting campaign funds to personal use; and accepting impermissible gifts under House rules."
Gaetz was joined by United States Representatives Andy Ogles, Vicente Gonzalez, and Anna Paulina Luna. The latter was commented on who she met in the prison: "I saw evil today. I will never forget it
"I saw murderers. Recruited as young boys and as boys their souls and humanity was crushed. Forcing them to commit murder as a way of blooding in."
CECOT has a reported capacity of 40,000 inmates - making it the world's largest prison. 15,000 are said to be behind bars so far, with more expected to join.
