Conspiracy toting Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene has sparked outrage online with a frankly strange tweet that some are saying is a twisted celebration of Pope Francis' death at 88.
The Vatican had just announced the passing of Pope Francis when Greene took to X with her message. "Today, there were major shifts in global leaderships. Evil is being defeated by the hand of God," Greene posted on X Monday.
While she didn't mention Pope Francis or the Vatican outright, the timing and content of the tweet have led many to see it as a distasteful jab at the Catholic Church, on the day the world mourns its figurehead's death. The situation was further inflamed by what some called the White House's 'narcissistic' five-word homage to the Pope.

X users wasted no time tearing into the Georgia representative for her seemingly heartless tweet, especially following JD Vance's awkward encounter and brutal dismissal.
"Are you seriously clapping because a Pope died while claiming to be a devout Christian? The hypocrisy is completely staggering," one user blasted.
"Did you just call the Pope evil ? ! ? ?" another demanded.
"Marjorie Taylor Greene seemingly celebrating the death of Pope Francis is a new low even for her. This woman is vile," a third accused.
"MTG is one of the worst and nastiest people in Congress. She's aggressive, heartless, snobby, and unrepentant," a fourth fumed.
This comes after several X users have branded the White House as both "coarse" and "narcissistic" after it issued a brief 5-word tribute to Pope Francis hours after his death. In the tweet, which was a mere five words, the White House wrote, "Rest in Peace, Pope Francis."
MTG has been a vocal critic of the Catholic Church under Pope Francis' leadership for some time. During his tenure, the late Pope attempted to modernise the church by reaching out to marginalised groups, including the LGBTQ community, pro-abortion Catholics, and migrants.
However, his support for migrants sparked outrage from the Georgia Republican, who in 2022 told a right-wing news outlet that Satan was "controlling the church."
Greene claimed that the Vatican was "destroying" the US by supporting immigration policies, alleging that the church and Catholic organisations profited from government contracts to care for migrants and refugees.
In a statement that year, she said, "What more can we expect from criminals and abusers living unaccountable lives of luxury funded by the rest of us, draped in fine linens while choirboys are raped."
Her incendiary comments made headlines and sent shockwaves through the GOP, earning her widespread criticism. Bill Donohue of the Catholic League, an advocacy group, even labelled Greene a "disgrace."
Pope Francis passed away early Monday morning, shortly after 7 a. m. in Rome, according to Vatican officials who mourned the loss of the progressive bishop.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell said: "He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love of the One and Triune God."
