Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is building a top secret 212 million compound which wouldn't look out of place as a Bond villain residence.
The family home on the Hawaiian island of Kauai boasts fortress-like security, complete with blast-proof doors and a 5000sq ft underground bunker. Having chosen the 'garden isle' due to its tropical rainforest, the Silicon Valley billionaire has picked one of the most beautiful places on earth for his 1400 acre development.
Kauai's highlight is the stunning Na Pali Coast which has been featured in Hollywood blockbusters including South Pacific, Jurassic Park and Pirates Of The Caribbean. Zuckerberg's project is one of the boldest private construction endeavours in the history of North America.

His plans will see the creation of not just two mansions, but an entire village of outhouses.
In transforming unspoilt coast into a home where he, his wife, Priscilla, and their kids can sit out the apocalypse, critics critics say he has ridden roughshod over ancient, indigenous property rights.
Regular residents of Kauai, who grumble about not being able to afford a simple home anymore, are not pleased with Zuckerberg's intentions, according to public-records application request made by technology magazine Wired.
The massive estate, currently being built and referred to as 'Koolau Ranch' by the Zuckerbergs, boasts numerous structures, including multiple guest houses. In total, there are over 30 bedrooms and bathrooms spread across the sprawling compound.

Two mansions stand at the heart of the place, covering a combined floor area of 55,000sq ft, which is equivalent to the size of an American football field. Inside both are lifts, offices, conference rooms and 'industrial-sized' kitchens.
But below the surface is where the real apocalypse proofing takes place.
As per the documents submitted to the Hawaiian planning authorities, a subterranean tunnel will connect the two properties and lead to a sprawling underground bunker spanning 5,000 square feet.
This consists of a living area, a sleeping area, a room for mechanical equipment, and a 'escape hatch' that can be reached using a ladder.
The main entrance of the shelter will be constructed using metal and then reinforced with concrete.
This design is commonly employed in military-grade bunkers and bomb shelters to provide protection against blasts.
The compound's security is top-notch, with an unmatched level of protection. It boasts a vast network of surveillance cameras that are centrally controlled, along with numerous interior doors that can only be accessed through keypads.
According to Wired, Koolau Ranch will be entirely self-sufficient, with its own 18ft-high, 55ft-wide water tank and enormously powerful 'pump system'.
The ranch is already producing much of its own food through agriculture and livestock.
One aspect of the project that has dismayed islanders is the intense secrecy in which it is being carried out.
Zuckerberg wasted no time in building a 6ft wall made of volcanic rock that stretched for a mile.
The folks living nearby claim that it has ruined their picturesque coastal scenery, whereas on the beach below - the one that Zuckerberg couldn't buy - tourists have to tolerate being observed from small 'guard huts' scattered along the boundary of the tycoon's land.
In the meantime, for practically everyone who steps foot on the premises secrecy is key.
Whether they're builders, carpenters, or painters, they are required to sign a very specific non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that explicitly prohibits them from divulging any information about what's happening within the compound.
Zuckerberg, 39, and wife Priscilla Chan, 38 whom he married in 2012 and with whom he has three children got a 'taste' for Hawaii when they bought several multi-million dollar homes on the neighbouring island of Oahu in 2013.
