Los Angeles residents were left turning their heads after two identical women were spotted jogging apparently naked down a busy high street.
Posted on social media site Instagram, the surprising stunt has garnered huge attention online, with internet sleuths desperate to identify the seemingly nude runners, with theories ranging from artificial intelligence to an homage to a popular music video.
Originally appearing on social media site Influencers in the Wild with the caption 'Average day in LA', the clip was widely compared to an iconic Blink-182 video, in which the band members similarly walk the streets of LA in the buff.
In the 1999 video for the classic rock hit 'What's my age again?', band members including Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus can be seen running around wearing absolutely nothing but socks and shoes, with only a small patch of pixelation added to protect their modesty.
Unlike, the original naked joggers, this recent pair had the wherewithal to sport nude coloured bodysuits, giving them the appearance of being naked without actually having to bare all.
Having baffled viewers as to who they might be at first, the eye-catching pair have now been identified as Russian-born twins Daria and Maria Vasilieva, who took part in the stunt in order to promote a new line of clothing.
The eye-catching jog was in fact organised to celebrate the launch of their 'FIFA' fashion collection, which includes 'couture' versions of football tops including Argentina, Brazil and Barcelona, worn by the likes of Christina Aguilera and popular band Katseye.
In a post on Instagram the twins explained: "Our FIFA collection has been one of the craziest and most successful moments for our brand, so we wanted to finish this chapter with a little fashion film."
"Thank you to everyone who joined us and became part of this video."
The designers also explained that the video was in part an homage to the classic Blink-182 video for 'What's My Age Again', posting both side-by-side and writing: "Endless love and respect to Blink-182.
"Their iconic video inspired this whole idea, and after all these years the FIFA World Cup in LA finally gave us the perfect chance to recreate it in our own way."
The video has no doubt been a hit online, with the eye-catching stunt garnering hundreds of thousands of views.
