Several dead and pilot killed as plane crashes near major airport

A total of 12 people were on board the plane when it crashed in Butler, Missouri, on Sunday morning, sources have confirmed to FOX4. All people on board, including 11 skydivers and the pilot, have died.

A tragic plane crash has resulted in the deaths of 11 skydivers and a pilot. A total of 12 people have been confirmed dead following a plane crash in Butler, Missouri on Sunday morning, according to sources at FOX4.

A spokesperson for Bates County Emergency Management stated that just before 11.30 am, a private plane departing from Butler Memorial Airport turned around for an unknown reason before crashing near Business 49 Highway.

FOX4's source revealed that 11 of the 12 victims were skydivers, with the remaining victim being the pilot of the plane. It has been confirmed that all individuals on board lost their lives, reports the Mirror.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman said: "Troopers are on scene assisting the Butler Police Department & Bates County Sheriffs Office of a Fatal Plane Crash near the Butler Memorial Airport. At this time reports indicate all occupants (12 total) have perished. Updates to follow."

Butler is about 65 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri.

No cause for the crash has yet been made public, with local officials already launching an investigation.
