World's first humanoid robot available to buy now is not all it seems here's why

Humanoid robot NEO has a height of 5'6'', weighs 66 pounds and has the 'dexterity of a human', according to an advertisement released by tech firm 1X, but a YouTuber said all is not as it seems

The world's first humanoid robot which allegedly has the capabilities to carry out household chores is available to buy right now. But, before you reach for your wallet, there are a few catches to the so-called personal assistance bot, which has a height of 5'6'', weighs 66 pounds and has the "dexterity of a human".

Robotics firm 1X showed NEO carrying out tasks such as folding laundry, organizing shelves and setting reminders with ease. And the advert leads viewers to believe chores will be a thing of the past with this advanced humanoid robot.

1X boss Bernt Brnich said: Humanoids were long a thing of sci-fi then they were a thing of research, but today, with the launch of NEO, humanoid robots become a product." He added that NEO closes the gap between our imaginations and the world we live in.

However, tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, also known as MKBHD, told his 20 million subscribers that the promises made by 1X do not match NEO's current capabilities. He said: "This isn't real and I mean that in the most literal way possible. This is not real.

"First of all, it is a pre-order. You can go to this website right now and pick between three colours and it is either $499 per month or a flat fee of $20,000. Deliveries start sometime in the next year."

"My issue with this product is the gap between what it is actually capable of today and what they are promising as they take your money today.

Some joked about robots taking over(Image: 1x.tech)

"It turns out 100% of the things that they showed her were remotely controlled by a human in another room wearing a VR headset with controllers."

Marques added that ad says there were two tasks the robot can do autonomously "get the door" and "put away the dishes".

The Daily Star has contacted 1X for comment on the claims made by Marques Brownlee.

Meanwhile, YouTube users joked about the robot turning on the human race. One said: "This 100% the post apocalyptic scene from a video game showing you the backstory."

Another wrote: "'[Neo, open the door'. 'I'm sorry Harry, I'm afraid I can't do that'". A third wrote: "Everyone's chill until those head lights turn red."

A fourth said: "Imagine you get home and it's just sitting on the couch playing video games. No chores finished."
