Very few people in the UK are getting Jack Kays one-of-a-kind haircut, leaving the brutal barnet to the professionals.
Unless youve been marooned on a desert island for the last fortnight, you may have heard of Jack Kay, the 26-year-old raver from Newcastle, who went viral at the start of the month for throwing shapes at the Zero Six West club in Ibiza. Now Jack and his Monastry of Sound bob are everywhere.
But, despite the Ibiza Final Boss infamous bob-cut pummelling the algorithms harder than Donald Trump finds a golf course, it doesnt seem like his unique haircut is catching on as a trend for others.
Barring certain members of the Daily Stars workforce who have tried out the cut, recent research conducted by this publication revealed theres very few blokes willing to get their hair done like a medieval monk.
Ha, ha, I know who that is, said Vincents barbershop in Shoreditch, when we asked them if people were getting Jack Kays Boss cut. Nope not a single one has asked for one. I can confirm in Central London theres no interest. Your best bet is to ask up North where hes from.
So we duly did. Kanos Barbershop, in Jacks hometown of Newcastle said they hadnt experienced anyone asking for a thatched roof back and sides.
Nah, nothing yet although give it another couple of weeks it might catch on, said someone from Top Barber in Newcastle. Is it a good haircut, do you think? we asked them. Nah, was the response.
Never heard of him, said Temple Barbershop in Leeds. Nothing like that here.
I dont understand, came the reply from Manchester Barbers, in Manchester. Do you want to book a haircut or not? The Daily Star understands they did know about the Ibiza Final Boss.
So perhaps there isnt the huge swathe of blokes going get their hair done like Jack. And thats fair enough, its a very difficult hairstyle to pull off its definitely not for the faint of heart, or those who want to risk their relationships falling apart.
Jack's unique bob has been the subject of countless memes and jokes online, with one social media joker labelling it a "Short back and Battle of Hastings."
But the controversial haircut wasn't even Jack's idea. His barber conjured it up for him at 26 a go. It features a medium skin fade with some length retained on top.
Ali Kurbani, co-owner of BandD Barbers in Gateshead, disclosed that his business partner Danny Karimi has been styling Jack's locks for seven years. It's Danny who crafted the signature look after being trusted with the tattooed hunk's mane.
Ali explained: "Jack will ask Danny 'sort my hair out', he never asks for a style. He used to have a slick back but two years ago they changed his style and Danny chose this style for his face. He liked it and for the last two years he's been having exactly the same haircut. The beard is also Danny's choice because he said if you have your hair like that you have to have your beard like that."
