Biohacker Bryan Johnson has teased the launch of a revolutionary "techno tampon" as part of a mission to track his girlfriend's period. The "Don't Die" tech mogul unveiled the news alongside details of the gruelling daily routine undertaken by his partner, Kate Tolo.
Tolo's packed schedule involves completing over 100 tasks a day and using more than 50 gadgets to monitor bodily functions, alongside gathering regular blood, urine and stool samples. Even as she sleeps, the 30-year-old is continuously monitored via a specialised sleep ring, alongside the mysterious "techno tampon."
Addressing the unusual device in a cryptic email, Johnson told the Independent: "We will be sharing more on that soon."
The device appears to have already been showcased in a picture published by The Wall Street Journal, which described "an acrylic device inserted into her vagina, which she said is intended to track blood-flow variations."
The multimillionaire biohacker, whose $2million-a-year anti-ageing routine featured in the Netflix documentary Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever, said the main aim of the tracking is to advance female healthcare.
He said: "Women are not well understood medically. Kate will provide the most comprehensive data set on a female menstrual cycle in history."
Taking to social media, the 48-year-old entrepreneur explained that Tolo is currently "collecting 14 million data points on her menstrual cycle" with the help of a dedicated 12-person medical team. "This is a world first for female health," he wrote.
He added: "This will be the most quantified menstrual cycle ever. And this is just to collect baseline measurement. Once we're done with the 100 days, we'll start trying interventions."
He also promised to "post all results including the good, bad and ugly in addition to sharing all the practical insights."
The project comes with an estimated price tag of $2.6million per year. It is being bankrolled by the couple's venture, Immortals, a brand offering supplements, prescription drug access and other medical services.
The intense monitoring follows Tolo's recent diagnosis with endometriosis, a painful condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows elsewhere in the body.
Tolo also revealed diagnoses of polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome and adenomyosis, noting she has suffered from severe menstrual pain for years.
The news comes shortly after Johnson shared his own health battle with autoimmune gastritis - an incurable condition causing the immune system to attack acid-producing cells in the stomach.
Describing the condition as his stomach "eating itself," Johnson said: "Had I not taken care of my body during the past five years, the situation would be much worse so I am very grateful to have been focused on health."
