MP wants to bring sex toys into parliament and admits she watches X-rated material

Labour MP Samantha Niblett is launching a 'summer of sex' campaign to bring sex toys into Parliament help overhaul the standard of British sex education

Labour MP Samantha Niblett wants to bring sex toys into parliament

A Labour MP is planning to turn up the heat in the House of Commons by bringing sex toys into Parliament as part of a racy new "summer of sex" campaign.

Samantha Niblett, the MP for Derbyshire South, is on a mission to strip away the British taboo surrounding the bedroom. The 46-year-old politician has secured a major parliamentary debate for the autumn, but she wants the action to start much sooner.

Working alongside sex tech guru Cindy Gallop, founder of the adult site MakeLoveNotPorn, Niblett is calling for a radical overhaul of how the UK views sex education. Speaking to PoliticsHome, she said: "It sounds like we're going on a bit of a tour.

"What I am hoping is that by the time we get to summer recess, I have got a whole bank of organisations to visit and speak with and gather information, so we can talk about sex all summer."

Punning on the classic 1970s comedy No Sex Please, We're British, Niblett's campaign carries the tagline: 'Yes Sex Please, We're British!' She says she wants the movement to be about "taking control of our patriotism, about taking control of our Britishness and not feeling ashamed."

But her boldest move involves a potential showdown with parliamentary security. Niblett is hoping to host two major events before the summer break, including one where she plans to bring sex toys onto the historic estate to spark honest conversations about pleasure.

Samantha Niblett has a plan. And it involves sex toys

The MP recently met with experts from the retailer Love Honey, where she learned that a bit of alone time can actually be a health boost. She noted that masturbation "as well as making you feel good...is good for your health," citing research that suggests it helps with stress, period cramps, and even lowering the risk of prostate cancer.

She didn't hold back when discussing her own habits, admitting she has watched pornography "like lots of people." The politician praised the content on Gallop's site for showing "real people" having "messy, funny, intimate" sex.

She said: "It's a turn on, it helps you masturbate. I think if you're desensitised to think that some things are normal, it skews your view about what real sex is like with real people who are not acting in a porn film."

For Niblett, the campaign is deeply personal. She admitted that her own introduction to sex was through videotapes and magazines at the age of just 10, which left her unable to talk about what she'd seen.

She said: "It's funny, just because I'm doing a campaign on sex education, it's not because I'm this massively empowered, sexually flamboyant person. I'm not. I wish I were.

"If I could rewire my brainIt's not too late, I'm hoping that, actually, this summer of sex is also an education for me."

Samantha Niblett says the campaign is 'deeply personal'

Blasting the "pretty medical" education she received at school, she said: "It was all focused on what you shouldn't do, not what you should do. Pleasure certainly didn't play a part in it."

The parliamentarian is now looking to enlist a star-studded squad to help her cause, including TV legend Davina McCall and Celebs Go Dating star Paul Bruson. While the Government is currently cracking down on "barely legal" pornography through the Crime and Policing Bill, Niblett argues that while laws are important, education is the "biggest tool" we have.

She added: "We just need to acknowledge that humans have a natural interest in sex. It's one of the things that nearly all of us want to do, nearly all of us do. It just feels like there is an opportunity to remind people that it is a joyful thing."
