Britain's skies are buzzing with things that go bump in the flight path, with mysterious objects spotted over our towns for decades. It comes after paranormal investigator Malcolm Robinson recently demanded a full government probe into bizarre aerial activity in Scotland.
Robinson has lobbied multiple Prime Ministers to declassify secretive files on "unusual aerial objects" following a wave of creepy encounters in Bonnybridge - once dubbed the world's UFO capital. From triangular spaceships to glowing metallic orbs, the UK has a long, spine-chilling history of close encounters in all shapes and sizes.
Long before the latest calls for transparency, military personnel, commercial pilots and even local police have been left scratching their heads at mind-bending vessels. Here, the Star looks at the weirdest UFO sightings in our skies.
The Rendlesham Forest Incident, over Christmas 1980, saw military staff at RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk report seeing strange lights and marks on the ground in nearby woodland. A triangular-shaped craft, 10 feet across and eight feet high, with three legs was also seen. The events have never been properly explained.
In 1995 two pilots of a Boeing 747 coming into land at Manchester Airport said they'd seen a puzzling high-speed Christmas tree or wedgeshaped object.
The traditional saucer-shaped UFO goes back to reports of a flying disc in Roswell, US, in 1947. But they've been seen in the UK too. Margaret Fry and a local GP believed they'd seen a saucer-shaped UFO hover over a street in Bexley, south-east London, in 1955.
In 2008 it was claimed that a police helicopter in south Wales almost collided with a saucer-shaped craft and then vainly gave chase.
On August 4, 1990, two men walking near Calvine in Scotland photographed a diamond-shaped craft hovering in broad daylight, before moving off as it was chased by an RAF jet. Intriguingly, ex-MOD UFO investigator Nick Pope believes the snaps were real.
In another famous incident, in the early hours of November 28, 1980, PC Alan Godfrey was in his patrol car when he was confronted by a large rotating, diamond-shaped vessel near Todmorden, West Yorks. It was even claimed he had been abducted by aliens.
In 1965 there were a number of strange UFO sightings and sounds over the town of Warminster, Wilts. Many of these involved bizarre metallic orbs, some of them captured on camera. The unsolved events became known as the Warminster Thing.
Sightings of cylindrical UFOs abound. One of the most mysterious occurred in 1977, in Broad Haven, Pembrokes, where a group of 15 children all claimed that a cigar-shaped craft had landed in a field near their school and that a silver creature had emerged. The kids later all made similar drawings.
ET seems to love Birmingham. In 1979 a woman from Rowley Regis claimed that she saw an egg-shaped alien craft land in her garden. In 2018 a man reckoned he had seen and filmed an egg-shaped UFO hovering over the M62 motorway.
