AEW star CM Punk vows to 'wrestle again just to upset you' months after suspension

CM Punk walked out of WWE in controversial fashion in 2014 and hadn't been seen in a ring until he returned with All Elite Wrestling in 2021 - but his time there has been less-than smooth sailing

Controversial wrestling star CM Punk has hit back at a fan who said he should have 'stayed retired'.

Punk came out of retirement to return to the ring with All Elite Wrestling in 2021 for the first time since leaving WWE in 2014.

And, despite being champion twice, having beaten Jon Moxley at the All Out show in September, 2022, he was stripped of the belt the next day after an explosive press conference post-show saw him call out and insult several wrestlers.

There was also reportedly a backstage altercation between Punk and my other wrestlers which involved chairs being thrown and someone getting bitten.

Since then, he has been suspended, and has yet to return to the ring.

But in recent weeks rumours about an imminent return have been ramping up - and it has divided the fanbase and apparently the AEW locker room.

It had been reported by many wrestling news outlets that some stars within the company saw Punk as a "cancer" in the dressing room.

But former WWE legend and now AEW interviewer and commentator Mark Henry came out in support of Punk, telling Busted Open Radio that he didn't think that was true.

He said: "If I was in chare, I would bring him back and I would bring him back with him saying to the wrestling world, not an apology, but just state the facts.

"Grown men will disagree and things will be said that probably shouldn't have been."

However, one fan replied to an Instagram post about it to say that Punk should have stayed "retired".

Punk himself took to social media to reply to the fan directly.

He wrote: "You liked your own comment - bold.

"I'll wrestle again just to upset you.

"You'll watch, no matter where."

Punk has yet to comment on his suspension and stripping of the AEW World Championship.

It has been rumoured that he will return to the ring to team with the tag team of Dax Harwood and Dash Wheeler, also known as FTR.
