Russia to use AI to identify 'bad' video games after 63,000 kids demand Putin U-turn

After Russian kids sent Putin 63,000 letters hoping for a U-turn on the ban on Roblox, officials have decided to best deal with the situation is to find a way to ban 'bad' games before children get them

Russian officials have now identified a possible solution following a Roblox ban that saw over 63,000 kids write letters asking for a U-turn to Putin and his government, but its not lifting the video game sanction.

Instead, State Duma Deputy Tatyana Butskaya has proposed Russia turns to AI to conduct preliminary assessments of all video games so they avoid another Roblox scandal.

The proposal system would reportedly see every game be automatically tested by AI for safety and suitability for Russian children.

Only after it passes the automatic check, the matter would be referred to a real expert for a final say.

The question was asked to Butskaya following backlash from Russia's youth over the banning of popular video game Roblox.

Russia banned Roblox on December 3 claiming that it distributes extremist materials and promotes LGBT propaganda.

However, Russia's youth have stood up to Putin and the Russian media regulator Roskomnadzor over the ban of what was once the most downloaded game in Russia.

In response to a question from Russian publication Life.ru, Butskaya said: "It's better when a child doesn't even have the opportunity to find a bad game from the start. Then we won't have to ban anything."

Despite plans for how to stop games, the outcry for a U-turn on the Roblox ban is still increasing with letters sent in from children.

Pro-Kremlin censorship advocate Yekaterina Mizulina told Peskov that over 63,000 letters from children aged eight to 16, with some even suggesting they now want to leave Russia over the ban.

Putins press secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the Kremlin has received many letters from children demanding a U-Turn.

According to Moscow Times, Peskov denied claims that Russia's youth said they would leave the country but did confirm many want the game back.

Peskov said: They dont write about leaving [Russia], but they do write about this game."

This backlash comes just a week before Putin holds his end-of-year presidential press conference and televised call-in show on December 19, with the Roblox ban now set to be on the agenda.
